mainstream America doesn't respond to weirdos with fedoras and megaphones. They never have, they never will. ABC has done more for gay people than any activist.

I agree with you. The spite and lengths they are willing to go to is scary.

I really could care less, but when it goes from advocating for gay marriage to attacking Christianity, I'm less likely to support their cause.

I think the gains made by the movement were solidified when it was less insufferable, less intolerant, and less spiteful.

Hurting. I was a strong backer of ghey marriage, until it turned into a vindictive anti-religious movement. I don't support bigotry. By straights nor gheys.

this issue is completely off the table for me now. Abortion too (after the U.N. called restricting abortion "torture")

I just fricking hate the way they narrate the story. It always has to be emotional, over the top, and demonizing.

The "activists" (regardless of the cause) getting the most face time appear to be the ones most divisive. I don't believe that's done by accident.
They serve the purpose of divide and divert, which is the sole objective of the media.

I now oppose black civil rights. Why? Spite.

Jesus these people are fricking insufferable and to top it off they're of the "ends justify the means" variety of blacks.

But back to my original question, are they helping or hurting their cause?

This, and I don't think any cause would be immune.

exactly why I hate it. For one, I've always supported gay marriage as I would any right. Two, I have a pretty extensive post history here to prove it. But make a joke that I oppose it now for spite, and now I hate blacks...That's what it always comes back to. I support property rights...I hate blacks. I support free speech...I hate black people. I support upholding the integrity of the electoral process....I hate blacks. I oppose unethical means to acquire a benevolent goal...I hate blacks. I am white...I must hate blacks.

The irony is, if there is one subset of people homogeneously opposed to gay marriage, it is.................................................

I didn't say you hate blacks, I was pointing out the absurdity of rejecting a cause based on the persistence of the movement.

He isn't necessarily just rejecting it based on persistence. He is also rejecting it based on merit and other factors, such as over dramatized narrative that is pushed down our throats constantly.

I don't reject the cause, but I am no longer inclined to vote on it. When you achieve your goals through less than ethical means, I won't give two shits about voting in my self interest if doing so is detrimental to your benevolent cause.

Church theology will be the next target, i see lot's of discrimination lawsuits against religious groups filed. On side note, i look forward to the pro-polygamist movement legal arguments hitting the courts.

I also think the people opposed to gay marriage are the ones to be protected. I care a lot more about the free exchange of ideas and opinions than I do about bob and bob getting a marriage license.

without even getting into the most practical and worrisome examples

The idea of shutting down and shutting up opposing views (no matter what those views are) is unethical. You are no longer participating in the free exchange of ideas and opinions, you're trying to corner the market. You know it's wrong, but the ends justify the means, right? The lesser of two evils is...evil.

It's the same reason abortion is off my voting table. You are against abortion? Why do you support torture? Generally these "issues" do not concern me in the least bit, but when you're 5 percent of the population...well. See you can shut up these people, smear them, whatever you like, but then they're going to vote...see how well that turns out for you. The radicalized gay rights movement of the past two years is going to set it back because I and a shitload of other people are about to vote in a lot of people who virulently oppose gay marriage. And not because we oppose gay marriage, but because we don't feel the obligation or desire to vote for other people's interests, because those people have behaved like handjobs

Helping. Helping a crap-ton. Look how far the gays have moved the ball (pardon) in the last 10 years. How is this even a question?
