I've never heard it put so succinctly as he does on today's podcast at the 23:00 mark.
Religious Jews vote GOP at a 70% clip
Non religious Jews vote Democrat at an 80% clip
Healthy majority of Jews are atheist / agnostic / liberal so there you go.

Sounds like being jewish is a cultural thing for democrat voters and not really religion to them.

This is what gets me. Atheists that have Christian heritage don't call themselves Christians. Why don't they just say they are liberals?

The Dems have quite the eclectic group under their tent. Jews and Muslims, the LGBT community, feminists. Too many different viewpoints to keep them all happy. It’s one of the problems with identity politics, eventually it becomes an oppression contest, with everyone jockeying for the top spot of most marginalized in a race to the bottom

If religion is the main reason why you vote conservativily, you are likely to be less of a consistently conservative thinker and more closer to someone who tries to push his spiritual views on the rest of America.

I understand your question/sentiment but there are ethnic Jewish groups such as Ashkenazi. Also there are atheists and agnostics from Christian families who still celebrate Christmas in some form. A lot of this is simply familial tradition and therefore cultural.

The terms get used interchangeably - Hebrews are a unique people group - Judaism is their primary religion. Their identity is intertwined.
