Russia on Thursday blocked a UN Security Council statement calling for "significant measures" in response to North Korea's launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

quote:

Russia blocked the measure, arguing that it had not been verified that the launch involved an intercontinental missile, said a council diplomat.

quote:

Addressing an emergency council meeting on Wednesday, Russian Deputy Ambassador Vladimir Safronkov said Moscow opposed the move, arguing that "sanctions will not resolve the issue." "Any attempts to justify a military solution are inadmissible and will lead to unpredictable consequences for the region," warned Safronkov

wait, wut? Now sanctions are an attempt to justify military action?

This body is a f'ing joke. They were created for situations just like this, and now they are incapable of handling it.

Tell me Russia doesnt have an interest in seeing NK threaten the US. They've shown their hand. We should walk out and be like, "dont worry, we'll take care of this shite" and drop the mic.

I'm ok with this if its Russian, Chinese and Japanese soldiers. Rest of the world needs to nut up for this as I am tired of America providing the lives and the funding.

Reverse the roles... say Mexico had a fat retarded kid running the show and Australia wanted to pick a fight. We'd be doing everything in our power to deter Aussies from starting a war because of the economic ramifications. There is no reasoning with NK,so Putin is doing everything he can to keep a conflict from rising so close to home.

I agree with your UN claims though. Waste of money. DJT is on it and I fully expect him to either get other countries to start paying or withdraw the US. If that's all he accomplishes, Ill be happy.

Japanese

I've wondered a couple things with all this recently. What capabilities does Japan have? Many of these missles fall very close to Japan. Does Japan possess the ability to take them out, and if so what does the world say?

I'd be all for it. We can't be everybody's savior. It makes you everybody else's bad guy.

What does "significant measures" mean? If it means U.N. military action against NK then I agree with the Russian ambassador. If it means significant sanctions then Russia is making themselves look bad by supporting a dangerous regime.

you guys are missing a huge point. we arent coming to Japans rescue here. Or SKs. OUR OWN arse is on the line. They regularly express a clear intent to take down the US. and when they proliferate those weapons to the likes of Iran who wants the same thing....

For the first time since the cold war, WE are the targets. At least the Russians were sane.

Saw on the News that we have only 4 people at the UNassigned to the fight against ISIS. The UN is pro Muslim and not pro USA, so frick um. Stop their funding unless they favor us and the West.

Only problem w/ your scenario is it's not Australia (US) picking the fight, it's Mexico (NK). If Mexico was launching ICBM's that had the capability of reaching Australia & Mexico was on record w/ a stated goal of launching at Australia, then hell yeah Australia should gear up.

I have advocated for turning the UN building in NYC into Section 8 housing and sending the UN to France (now I think I'd like to see them in Germany)

Tell them if they ever come up with something important to get in touch with us and we'll let them know if they can proceed with it. And if they should want $$ from us for anything at all, they better come with a great package of what they will do to make our lives better in exchange for it. Otherwise, pay for your own shite.

F 'em.

They have the capability to shoot at ICBMs with the SM-3s on their Aegis destroyers. They're the same ones we use. It's not a guaranteed shoot down but NK won't be launching that many to begin with. Japan has a bunch of destroyers so they probably have a bunch of SM-3s to go along with them. They've also been looking into land based versions of them.

The UN is all about fun and games for diplomats. The real shite isn't being negotiated out in the open that's for sure

NYC and the USA makes billions of dollars a year because the UN is located in NYC. It would be asinine to stop pitching in our funding share, we would lose a lot more than we would gain.

And I assume/hope that we have even better than the Japanese. Or we have shite based secretly where NK has no idea. Or that we have shite that NOBODY knows about.

This is one of those times I want to hope "big brother" has a toy he hasn't told us about. And anything getting fired from NK has a "malfunction" or "catastrophic failure"

I would never quit the UN. To much intel and connections to be made.

The cash we lay out is another thing entirely.

The US gives $8 billion per year to the UN. There is no way that we make anything close to that with it being based in NYC.
