Tim Scott will deliver GOP response to Biden so WAPO fact checks his ancestral blackness

Sen. TIm Scott will give the GOP response to Biden. But there’s more to the story of his grandfather than he tells audiences.
quote:
For Scott, the only Black Republican in the Senate, it’s the story of his grandfather, Artis Ware, who left school at an early age to pick cotton and, according to Scott, never learned to read and write. The tale of his grandfather fits in with a narrative of Scott moving up from humble circumstances to reach a position of political power in the U.S. Senate.
But Scott separately has acknowledged that his great-great-grandfather, Lawrence Ware, once owned 900 acres in South Carolina.
quote:
Our research reveals a more complex story than what Scott tells audiences. Scott’s grandfather’s father was also a substantial landowner — and Scott’s grandfather, Artis Ware, worked on that farm. Scott’s family history in South Carolina offers a fascinating window into a little-known aspect of history in the racist South following the Civil War and in the immediate aftermath of slavery — that some enterprising Black families purchased property as a way to avoid sharecropping and achieve a measure of independence from White-dominated society
quote:
The Pinocchio Test
Scott’s “cotton to Congress” line is missing some nuance, but we are not going to rate his statements. To some extent, Scott may be relying on the memories of his grandfather, not a detailed examination of records.
Scott tells a tidy story packaged for political consumption, but a close look shows how some of his family’s early and improbable success gets flattened and written out of his biography. Against heavy odds, Scott’s ancestors amassed relatively large areas of farmland, a mark of distinction in the Black community at the time. Scott, moreover, does not mention that his grandfather worked on his father’s farm — a farm that was expanded through land acquisitions even during the Great Depression, when many other Black farmers were forced out of business.
There's a lot more about Scotts family in the article but the theme of the article seems to be that Senator Scott exaggerates or omits details of his family's life to tell a political tale but his family history doesn't accurately represent the experiences of Black people of the era. I.E. he's not sufficiently black.

So the story is even better than he tells it.
Got it.

I can only imagine the fawning they'd be doing over Tim Scott if he were a reliable commie crat.
fricking WaPo is fish wrap, paid for by Wee Jeffrey Beezwax. I'd call it "yellow journalism" but then I'd get my humble house burned down for racism.

But Elizabeth Warren is an Indian and Kamala Harris is African-American.

Wow.
Hey WaPo now do Jim Clyburn: Was his daddy related to the black man with the largest amount of white & black slaves in SC?
Also did the BCC allow Scott in; or did they want to kick him out like they did Allen West because he brought Chick-Fil_A for everybody one day??

900 acres? That's more land than any of my white privileged family has ever owned.

Now do Elizabeth Warren.
And let's not forget... Obama was only half-black.

Sounds to me his family succeeded, in a time where it was tough for them to, due to hard work and determination. What’s the issue, here?

Sounds like an impressive family to me?

Modern "journalism"
WAPO should just change their logo to "Racist Against Any Black Person Who Isn't a Leftist" like STFU

How were they able to purchase land as blacks with the systemic racism keeping them down? Sounds like his family just does not fall into the narrative that there is no way for blacks to become successful.

Biden is giving a SOTU address soon.
Pelosi announced due to covid only 200 people could be invited and it was mostly all democrats.
I think Nancy got the idea from the Queen for the Queens husbands funeral. Pelosi was all snotty about it. There were arguments with the republicanss about the date because they had a pre planned retreat.
They argued more and the last I heard a lot of R's are boycotting Biden's SOTU.

So Scott's family overcame systematic racism to not only own land, but eventually have one of their own get elected to the Senate, all in their home state.
I was told this was not possible by the woke left.
