This is a really weird thing to get excited about. You do you, though. By the way, don’t flatter yourself. I usually engage ebbandflow and texridder too. You want to talk about a fantastic self-own?!? You just grouped yourself with those two morons. I wouldn’t have even done that to you.

I don’t know.
I guess this is where an "old" xiv would berate all young people as being intellectually incurious.

When the whole Crimea thing was going down we had a surge of new accounts who loved Putin and would slam Obama. No doubt that was some kind of operation.

That’s Americans trying to convince other Americans to vote a certain way.

quote:Not sure. It isn’t clear what the objective of the “enemy” is, or even if there’s a uniform objective or united enemy. What is known is that a foreign influence has demonstrated an unprecedented ability to affect an American election. Not “rigged” or anything (at least to our knowledge), just “affected.” Fast forward two years later, and the executive branch is chaotic, and it’s just something that we should know as much about as possible.

As far as what’s to be done about it ultimately...hell if I know. This is a new kind of thing.

If an American publisher publishes something libelous, we subject that publisher to our laws as far as we please.
If a foreign publisher publishes something libelous, what can we do if a bunch of citizens choose to believe it?
It’s a tough spot.

But you did confirm my premise about your thoughtfulness. You don't know.

Easy, you counter by publishing the truth.
What you don't ever do, is censor.

There was nothing the Russians ran that was remotely as libelous as the pee whore dossier or the "GOP is going to push grandma off a cliff" ad. Yet under US law, there is no avenue to a successful libel settlement in such instances.

Go ahead and laugh it up.

Good point.
Also libel laws do nothing about opinions.
They can only deal with false facts.

Saw an USA Today article (i know) yesterday, discussing the Russian use of memes to influence the election. What I found funny was that one of the memes highlighted was a legitimate Hillary Clinton quote.
Apparently even the truth is off limits when critical of Hil-Dawg.

During the election I always wondered about Josh Norris being a Russian troll. Is he banned?
