Some of the best moments I had with my kids
I can't believe I have to clarify this but: I'm not talking about playing with your kids.
I'm talking about adults playing with children's toys for themselves.

Thanks, but I was hoping for something involving a big screen TV or a pressure washer. LOL.

Exactly. Playing with your kids is awesome.
Disney adults are not awesome.

Video games aren't children's toys anymore. Games like The Last of Us and Grand Theft Auto shouldn't be played by children at all.
Now, I agree with you about playing 12 hours a day. That's ridiculous. I play around 5 hours a week at most.

You can be an adult and have a healthy relationship with video games. Heaven forbid men have an outlet for the stresses in their lives.
There are limits and I think that's the real issue. I spent most of Saturday out in the yard working on my flowerbed. Sunday I spent most of the day playing video games (full disclosure: I lost track of time

There is such a thing as "too much" of anything and video games are no exception. The problem is that many simply don't take on the self-accountability to limit themselves.

There seems to be a lot of 35 year old grumpy old men on this board

I had that when I was a kid. I loved playing with that farm set!

I really don't understand this. I played a few pinball and arcade video games in the early 80's. I think that was the last time. I can't even imagine. It's like still playing with Legos into your 40's or 50's... and some actually still do that as well.
Everybody is a geek about something.
For some people, it's the stock market or Mercedes or Armani. For others it's NASCAR or college football. For some, it's weed or heroin or molly.
It just happens to be that the stereotypical geeks are into video games, sci-fi, comic books, etc.

1. Tribalism This one is easy and doesn't need to be discussed as much, but we have to get away from complete tribalism. Racial and political tribalism, and looking at everything through the lens of those Worldviews is destroying society. The saddest videos on the internet are the ones where they find some uneducated progressive, willing to do anything for their cause, demeaning quotes or policies that are presented as Trump/MAGA when they are Democrats.
I can't believe this isn't satire.
Reddit is a cesspool echo chamber, but this place is even worse.
It's evident in the fact that people are posting about comparing Fisher Price toys to Legos and nobody has ripped their heads off yet.
Most people on this forum are actually out of their minds. There's no way yall don't see this, right?

I'm trying to hire an entry level position now. Its the most difficult hire I have ever had to make. If they aren't demanding 2x or 3x the competitive salary we are offering, they want ice cream parties and mental health days.

We've encountered similar struggles when seeking to hire new field installers or service techs. When I went into sales over a dozen years ago, I did so after nearly 20 years of being the guy who did the doing. My promise I made was that I'd always strive to be the sales guy I wish I had back when I was the one with the screwdriver in my hand.
I'll never ask our installers to do anything I haven't already done myself, or something I'd have been unwilling to do when I was out in the field. Sadly, the younger generations don't exhibit that same commitment.

If you have a social "feed," you're social livestock. It's not a coincidence that all the stuff that's depressing you and making you think the world is ending is social slop in your social trough.

Any man who regularly plays video games can never be a real man.

Interesting. I had no idea.
I do have a very curated feed, designed to filter out the noise. I'm not depressed by it, it was just an observation of society. I have a healthy marriage, a beautiful family, finances that are in order.
The world is not ending over this, but its hard not to notice societal decay. I noted in the OP that I have a family member that is caught up in all of this. I get that tribalism may be the fault of media, including social. The removal of shame and extended adolescence is not fueled by social media. Its societal decay, and it does effect every one of us.
I have a social media feed. Many on here do. Hell, TD is a social feed in its own right. I don't waste a lot of time on it, but I do keep up with the world happenings - the same way many people watch cable news.

Then get the frick out.
What kind of moron wastes any time whatsoever with people "out of their minds" unless he is a mental health professional?
You assholes think you are smarter than what you see when you are just a part of it.

Tribalism? It's OK only for Israel and other non whites.
