I think the word hostile is a bit amplified to describe the intent

Essentially it's architecture that would discourage homeless people from sleeping on benches and hanging out under overpasses as a couple of examples. A google image search will provide some examples if you are curious.

Seems like a good idea to me.

Didn't Starbucks just volunteer to take them in?

Even the insane liberals in SF are regretting their lenient hobo policies. You can wish that these people are noble humans just down on their luck and they'll follow the rules in exchange for leniency, but the fact is that they're mostly lazy drug addicts that will take a mile if given an inch, then still complain.

I don't know. Where were they about 15 years ago or so, generally before they were seemingly EVERYWHERE?

Not sure

But it might keep them out of downtown areas and promote more investment in business

Or they'll just go to another city that doesn't have things like this in place

I'll just post some pics because it's interesting:

UV light makes it really difficult for heroin addicts to find a vein.

This prevents skateboarders.

My previous work with the homeless leads me to believe over 50% of them are mentally disabled in varying degrees along the spectrum. Our mental health faculties and apathy for the mentally ill is lacking IMHO.

I am perfectly fine with it.

I have no answer for the homeless, and I am largely of the group that they themselves are to blame, but allowing them free reign to do whatever and sleep wherever is asinine.

We need to reopen sanitariums, or do you have another idea?

I'm good with this idea

So long as there are measures in place to make sure they are humane facilities

I was just about to ask that. The "We need to invest in mental health" platitude is beginning to drive me crazy. We did away with these places because they were considered cruel, but now they want to reopen them?

No reason these places couldn't be one of the investments IMO
