Are you implying they shouldn’t have a $300k budget?
Not at all. Her fiancé has a good head on his shoulder and isn’t letting her look at the $500k houses she wanted.

Y’all are supposed to be the adults in the room.
So, Boomers and X'ers tell Millennials to "grow up". Millennials (currently aged 26-41) respond,
"Y’all are supposed to be the adults in the room."
That is hilarious, NOLAVOL.
Thanks for the laugh.

The problem is their favorite uncle, Uncle Sam, is deeply in debt and wants to steal that "boomer money" for himself.
Which of the two should you actually hate?

For people like my friend’s daughter. Her and her fiancé are house shopping for their first home in the St. Louis suburbs. They’re looking to spend ~$300k. They’re both 23.

What interest rate in 1970?

in the 60s you could finish high school and go get a job at the local Ford service department and buy a house while your wife stayed at home and raised kids. Something changed
Yes it did.
The wonderful government got involved. They made policies like “everyone deserves to be able to buy a home” and lowered interest payments to zero. They made policies like changing the duration of a new car note from 4 years to 7 years. They made policies like “everyone deserves to go to college” and created federal loans that were accessible to everyone.
All of these things (and countless more) cause prices for things to rise!
If we could back to the idea that “no one deserves anything they don’t work for” and get our interest rate back to 9.5% - lots of prices would drop to 30 year lows.

The policies of the Fed and our government have destroyed the middle class. That is undeniable. Whether or not its intentional is up for debate
Yes.

Bear in mind, the USA went off the gold standard in 73, so you might want to use 75 numbers as the jumping off point.

quote:10% interest rate would require $3T in annual interest payments on federal debt. 2021 total federal revenue was $4T. We are fricked.

I'm not defending it at all. Just noting that to be more accurate, the comparison/calculation should use prices with the "same" currency.

The rest of the country hates your generation
and again, it is YOUR generation that has ushered in the existential threats to our country. This has been illustrated in stats in this thread.

I don't vote ding dong. He has existed for decades and why haven't you done your part to get rid of the little fart?

Who are these being built for? Maybe we’re short on “starter” homes right now as a result.
We definitely are short of starter homes. No matter any coming downturn in the housing market, homes under 300 and especially small homes under 250 will remain hot commodities going forward. They are affordable and in very short supply.

The perfect boomer response.
Don't go anywhere, don't do anything. Eat your rice and beans and be happy about it. Play checkers at home. If you want to do anything mildly fun, you don't get to complain that it costs more than it did "bAcK In my dAy."
LOL. fricking boomers.
I'm 36
And you're the one complaining about the price of movie tickets. That's a boomer move.

The boomers already spent all their contributions.
If so, don't you worry your little would-be adult head about it.
SS will be around for you, your progeny, and your progeny's progeny. Why? Because it is not an entitlement at all. It is a loan forced by the borrower (Uncle Sam) on to the lender (you) in terms ridiculously favorable to the borrower. SS withholdings (the loan) are returned at rates lower than any other lending instrument the federal government has.
So you'll be afforded the opportunity to be fully ripped off just like those who came before. Just like those who will come after. Do not fret it. If Uncle Sam can force you to lend him money, and have you believe it is a benefit when he finally initiates repayment back, all the better.
The fact that government-tit sucklers like yourself are so ill-informed as to think it is a "benefit" to finally receive return of lifelong contributions with barely any interest ROI at all, is sad.
