How the frick did my blue collar boomer dad do all this? God rest his soul.

Disagree. Plenty of millennials with boomer parents are doped up on prescription drugs.
quote:
They arent the ones who prevented Dylan from experience loss in sports when he was 7 years old and basically defended Dylan from ever having to feel discomfort as much as possible.
Eh, they gave rise to Gen X. Boomers grew up in a comfortable economy because they were so stable. Millennials were the first ones to exhibit signs of this and many if not most of them came from boomers.
quote:
I should add that the Boomers aren't the ones who ingrained into Dylan that he was naturally bad just because he was a boy.
Literally no one is saying someone is bad because he was a boy. Not even the woke lunatics.
Too many boomers make a point of making it as difficult as possible for their kids with "tough love" on not helping them out, ignoring the fact that everything is way more expensive and the prices of things (housing, education) have increased far more than the wages have.
When boomers were in their 20s, a college degree carried a lot more weight than it does now, and it's almost impossible to afford the average education without student loans.
My boomer uncle was working a shite job that didn't pay much more than minimum wage and owned a house at 22. Try doing that shite now.
I'm not going to blame boomers for everything because millennials hold some accountability too, but the arrogant boomers who act like things haven't changed and put it all on millennials and gen z's should count their blessings and shut their mouths.

frick that. You took the money from them; they deserve to get it back. If the government wants to stroke one check, that would be fine. However, to punish someone for being responsible and successful is bullshite.

Social media.
It used to be that people may have tried to keep up appearances within their immediate social circle. Now they see some stranger 1000 miles away and want to have the same lifestyle.

Stereotypes are never all-inclusive. But boomers making it as difficult as possible for their kids isn't why their kids are spoiled, selfie-seeking, spendthrifts in stereotype.

Lol. What? Comfortable? Do any of you folks know of history pre 9/11?
The Vietnam draft?
The Cold War?
Cuban missle crisis?
Stagflation being rampant in the 70s?
The gas crisis due to the oil embargo of the 70’s?
Prices that rose due to oil embargo and Vietnam conflict?
Mortgage rates in the 70’s of 11 or so percent and 16 percent for a 30 year in the early 80s?
Where do you folks actually get your information?

Here is the crux of the issue. So many stories in this thread about xyz boomer making 3.50 an hour in the field in wherever the frick. Guess what the minimum wage is in Georgia now? 7.25. Just barely double.
I bet they have a teary eye remembering the good ol days of nickel gum or cheap arse mcdonalds too. The purchasing power of the dollar has nosedived as wages have increased, but prices have outstripped them.
0.05/3.5 = 1% of one hour's work for the cost of some gum
pack of extra at target 1.79/7.25 = 25% of one hour's work for the same gum
To those who are defending boomers, who are millennials supposed to blame for this? Tons couldn't even vote when the towers came down. So many stories of boomers ragging on millennials for not just walking into a random office and giving a firm handshake.
"I paid 20k for my house." Good for fricking you, you got lucky to be born into a stable economy which you then rigged for your own benefit.

Oh yeah? And what were the prices? People love pointing this out and then neglect to mention a house was like 60 grand

You are correct. Not too long out of college I opted to buy a house....pops recommended I wait for my favorable interest rates....but I knew better.
Just about did me in financially...thanks Jimmy.
But I made it through.

If by "help their kids" you mean financially, then you and your siblings should give the money back to them.
You're lucky to have boomer parents like that, most of us do not.

There is no fricking lockbox, dummy. Take it up with the politicians on both sides of the aisle that ... can't ... stop ... spending.

You can't take it with you when you're dead bud....
Let's say you had $10k left to do whatever you wanted right before you die.
Option 1. Cruise, train tour of Europe, whatever, die knowing you helped a few shareholders
Option 2. Pass it along and die knowing you helped your family
Those are the options people are deciding between and the video is making fun of those choosing option 1.

The problem is you'd not have that $60K house you're referencing .... the 1500sqft one with linoleum floors, formica counters, single pane windows, 5lb hollow-core doors, a 10cuft refrigerator, cheap electric range, etc .... nope, not having that.

Baby boomers are the ones that started the very selfish trend of filing for divorce when they have young kids. Sacrificing their family for their own happiness is the epitome of selfishness and it bleeds over into everything else they do.
