Yeah I'm sure the majority opinion on this board is that millennials and younger generations aren't dumbasses

My dad is a boomer. Built his house I. The 80’s for about 45k. You know how? He did the dirt work. He did the concrete footings, he did the plumbing, the electrical, the painting, everything but some of the carpentry, AC unit, roof, and brick.

Thats great. Your dad doesnt equal the average boomer. ALSO, building is not as easy now. I highly doubt he did everything to current code. You are buried in fees, permits, inspections now when you try to build a house. Boomers had the laissez faire times...then buried their kids and grandkids in rules, taxes, fees etc when they took over power

While I agree the boomers have had an obvious negative affect on our country, my question is- why does the "greatest generation" get a pass for raising the boomers?

They shouldn't and its hard not to see how two world wars and the great depression within 25 years didnt eventually take a toll on the American psyche that effected an entire generation.

The "greatest generation" was great but horribly scarred by growing up in the great depression and them coming of age in a world war after their fathers had fought in a world war, which was 50 years after the civil war.

We remember all the facts of WW2 so well but imagine how fresh the civil war remained on the American psyche after the insane amount of bloodshed that occurred on US soil. In some cases entire small towns and families were wiped out in the process.

Theres something to be said for an insane amount of trauma and difficulty occurring within the American populace from 1860-1945.

Compared to that period everything since has been nothing and boomers whining about Vietnam are pathetic.

Hell I had to do that in my 03 Dakota.
I have an 07 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 WT (WT stands for work truck) Manual windows and doors which is pain in the arse because it's so wide. I just use it at the farm and hunting but it's still a pain in the arse. Had to make a door key for my brother because I can't reach the lock on the passenger door when we hunt together.

Well. Don’t make it easy to judge.

You can make more money right now driving a UPS truck than a nurse practitioner.

You can install and fix electrical right now for more money than many advanced degree holders earn with experience.

You can make 6 figures welding.

And younger generations are still bitching about what the minimum wage is.

So don’t make it easy to call people stupid.

And then voted to outsource the jobs their kids/grandkids could have done...for their own pocketbooks and with complete disregard for the second order effects....always about THEIR own bottom line.

The only generation to get more liberal as they age. No wonder they spend all their time whining.

Gen Z will pass up those candy asses in their sleep.

Inflation adjusted, it costs substantially more to buy a house, get a degree, and own a car today than it did for yall

True. E.g., we're in probably a housing bubble at this point. Not a great time to buy. And we're at some of the highest loan rates for the last few decades.

But now walk that situation back 10yrs, before the housing bubble, with record low with ZIRP rates. At that point, when homes were affordable for Gen-Y, the stereotype was rejection of ownership, opting instead for an urban social experience.

Comparisons with other gens is challenging because of erroneous preconceptions. Comparisons of median home prices in one era vs another with no accounting for median quality or size would be one example. Discounting present day conveniences or data access that previous gens couldn't have dreamed of is another missed comparator. Cars are indeed more expensive. They also last 3x as long, are much safer, etc.

So, it's not so much that the other guy had to walk to and from work barefoot back in the day, uphill both ways. It's that you're discounting their challenges exactly as you claim they are discounting yours.

You can also go blind in an accident ha. You're right there's lots of ways to make money, there's also lots of ways to make money that don't involve workplace accidents or increased risk of death.

But you're not calling the guy who gets in an accident stupid because he chose the trades and not an office job right? Was he stupid, or just unlucky?

This should be the end of the thread. Most reasoned take on offer here.

I should add that the Boomers aren't the ones who ingrained into Dylan that he was naturally bad just because he was a boy.

Or shamed him for being a straight white male

I'm short of being a boomer but I guess about 5 years. But in their defense. They arent the ones who put Dylan on prescription drugs. They arent the ones who taught Dylan that he was special. They arent the ones who prevented Dylan from experience loss in sports when he was 7 years old and basically defended Dylan from ever having to feel discomfort as much as possible. They arent the ones who stunted Dylan's growth and ability to navigate difficulties within Society. So if Dylan is fricked up he probably needs to have a discussion with his Gen X parents or even Millennial parents
.

How Boomer parents raised us was in stark contrast to many in the following generations who over-compensated with helicopter parenting.

Perfectly sums up the millennial generation. Too good to do the dirty work and make the sacrifices of the previous generations, but expects an equal or better outcome.

And your arteries can clog, you can have a stroke, and die from an embolism by sitting all day with no activity by sitting at a desk.

What exactly is your argument here? You crying about risk? Which there is very little to current trades?

First you people claim you can’t make money. You are then shown why you can’t make money. Then you claim it’s too dangerous. Then you pansies grab your bike and ride in the middle of a busy lane on Saturday while people are trying to get places.

You are just set up to whine. Not solve problems. Whine, cry, moan, blame, and cry more. The perfect example of weakness is all you have brought to this thread.

Anyone remember the stories of “the greatest generation” saying certain common jobs were just too dangerous?? Hell… the boomers?

Yeah this isn't happening at 35 though.

Plus when you do get in that welding accident and go blind and need to receive govt assistance, then you get to be told by shitheads on this board that you're scum and need to do drug testing because of it haha.

I do work from a desk, make plenty and I do take care of myself to prevent all the shite you outlined. Does that make me stupid? I'm not the caricature of 'you people' Fox News put in your head
