Medicare for over 65s is pretty good. Probably too expensive for all as they take a chunk of SS money from us oldsters to fund. But medicare has been pretty good for me.

It’s actually incredible. My mother is 80 and has had several health issues in the past 2 years. She has fallen several times and broken her shoulder and her hip. As her Medical surrogate I figured I’d see a lot of bills etc as I have never navigated Medicare. Not a single bill came. 100% covered.

Disclaimer…not saying it should be expanded at all…just sharing a personal anecdote about my experience with Medicare.

Ever heard of a second opinion before?

This isn’t veterinarian euthanasia. This is people being told there is no hope and that death is the right next move…only for them to come the US and see there are many more options.

Does she have a supplement, like Plan F? That makes a big difference.

You statement is a contemplation of jumbled information. In Canada they completely give up medical care after a diagnosis of fatal outcomes. In America doctors don’t give up but patients have the right to refuse treatment.

I am not suggesting that we should be refusing to treat treatable conditions.

Sorry if I was not clear on that point.

Individual liberty is something that many claim to support, well MAID is exactly that.

From what I understand it is being abused by those responsible for healthcare of others. In other words, people given MAID that didn't choose it at all. That is nothing close to "Individual Liberty".

MAID is appropriate if and only if the patient chooses it. If a condition is treatable, then the patient should have that option as well, of course.

If that is what someone chooses, that is their right. No one has the right to choose it for them.

And yet in Louisiana, and many other states, it is not a person's right. The state makes the decision that a patient cannot have that option.

That is how it started, not how its going.

It's a cost saving strategy, if you want suicide it's easy for most that are on hospice as most are also on some strong opiates.

In any society, there must be a means by which scarcity and allocation of resources can be dealt with. In feudalism, scarce resources were allocated based on heredity and closeness to the monarch. In a theocracy, allocation is based on the will of the priestly class. In a communist system, resources are allocated based on loyalty to the state.

In capitalism, scarce resources are allocated based on one’s ability to pay. This incentivizes the alleviation of scarcity because there is a profit motive to do so. When someone cannot afford the thing, they go without.

Under socialist universal healthcare systems, they still have the mandate to treat everyone, but they lack the profit motive to increase supply, nor the obvious systemic ways to make these decisions like under a Fuedal, Communist, or Theocratic system. Thus, the only way to deal with scarcity is via rationing.

Canada figured out that assisted suicide is a very cost-effective way to ration care. So, Canada’s government actively encourages people to kill themselves just to keep healthcare costs lower. Pretty grisly stuff. England, meanwhile, just utilizes long wait times so people die waiting on care. When demand exceeds supply, that delta has to resolve itself somehow.

A prime example is MRI machines per 1 million people. Canada has only 10.3 and America has 37.9.

Everyone thinks dependency on the government means you’re free. You’re not. When the government pays your bills the government determines the rules. Dependency is damn expensive.
