Did the police know he was schizophrenic?
They did.

Do police have general guidelines for dealing with the mentally ill?
They do.

Do you see any evidence that they followed those guidelines in the video?
I’ll hang up and listen.

I have no sympathy for people who act this way. Go to jail and if you have a problem, fight it in court.

I really disagree with you on this. The guy didn’t fight them. He refused to comply. He didn’t attack, he didn’t run. He was sitting on his own legal property, his tractor. The just walk up and say they are taking him to jail. He asks why they say they don’t know. They don’t bother to find out which they could. They could have taken a little time to defuse the situation but they were looking to kick arse. frick these cops.

I am real conservative. I was in the military but not a cop. I support cops. But they have to stop thinking the solution to every person who questions them is to lay hands on them. If the person is violent or runs I get it. Guy was no threat to anyone.

I didn’t watch the video.

The video is irrelevant to the fact one can make up a thousand different “shoulda” scenarios to a past event they didn’t like.

Which is why my post was a stupid unrelated event typecasting the stupidity of bringing a 105 lb nurse to the scene.

And while we’re at it, can you post these for me? I’d like to read them.

I wasn’t actually advocating bringing a nurse. I was pointing out that physical force isn’t typically necessary to negotiate situations like this for people who aren’t allowed to kill other people who don’t do what they want immediately (i.e, people who are not the police).

You wouldn’t really like to read them.

But here’s a link for you (which is not all-inclusive).

It’s not. Avoyelles Parish is central/east Louisiana.

If they don’t have a policy for dealing with the mentally ill, it’s going to be worse for them in the civil suit. I’d guess their lawyer has already advised them long ago to have one and to conduct training around that policy.

What do you think?

I think that,

They do.

and,

Don't match up.

Maybe you shouldn't speak on matters you know nothing about?

Lol.

Their lack of a policy and training around that policy isn’t a defense of them and their actions. It would rather highlight why another citizen has needlessly died at the hand of police.

If police aren’t willing to take their responsibility seriously, both individually and as an entity, then we should disband them. As that isn’t a viable option, they should be forced (by a vigilant citizenry) to take their responsibility seriously.

You said they had one, then you said you don’t know if they have one.

Old boy called you out on your flip-flopping.

I tend to agree. You don’t know diddly poo. You’re talking out of your arse.

Yeah. I’d agree that my wording choice was poor. This police department could be so shitty that they don’t have any policy for dealing with the mentally ill.

Maybe there’s a lot of those departments that are shitty like that. What do you think?

What do I think?

There’s over 17,000 departments in the US. Everything from 1 man departments to NYPD with 40,000 officers. Over 1 million field officers out there.

The spectrum of mental health policy training probably runs from 0 to really good.

That’s a fair statement. The only problem is that police with pitiful training end up killing paranoid schizophrenics for no real good reason.

There are 3 deputies who are under indictment for felony murder in rural middle GA for a similar type incident, but with a mentally ill black male. One can Google Washington Co deputies Deepstep (community)

ETA: However the huge difference is the Georgia deputies weren’t attempting to serve a warrant; they were investigating a suspicious person.

Your side just can't understand the difference between wrongful death.

Some cops are using self defense, others are not.

These police will serve jail time, I would Imagine.

The world gets dumber every day, I see you have already filled your quota.

Good eta, because arrest warrants are a whole different thing than other “engagement” activities.

If the cops have a warrant for an arrest, you’re going with them. They don’t have to show it. There’s no talking your way out of it.

Are there problems and do people get arrested when they shouldn’t have? Absolutely. But those are very limited and not much can be done about it.
