It tends to become necessary in a 2 vs 1 debate

Moderator @kwelkernbc will *not* have a "mute button."

Instead, the candidates' mics will be automatically turned off during the other's opening 2-minute replies.

It's 6 segments, 15 minutes each. That leaves 9 min per segment for open debate.

Im willing to bet anybody any amount of money that it would not go like this. At all.

Total setup.

They mute at will and Trump's head may explode.

He should tell them to shove the mute button up their arse.

I want Trump to ask the moderator Kristen Welker if she deactivated or deleted her Twitter account to conceal her "Never Trumpers'" comments.

And is this another case of a moderator's account being hacked.

Use this as scorched earth if she mutes him during his allotted time.

Drop mic and leave.

Trump should back out. No point in attending a debate with a mute button where foreign policy isn't even on the docket.

I would be fine with this if it was treated like timeouts. Each candidate gets 3. When they are gone, they are gone. Once they are gone, tough shite.

Mic or no mic, Trump can still badger and harass Biden as he speaks. Biden will still get mad if harassed.

I think this actually helps Trump. His biggest mistake in the last debate was not letting Biden talk

yeah, he did it too much with Biden.

He did it just the right amount with Hillary.

He knows this...this debate will be different

You know they once threatened to cut off Reagan's mic. He famously said, "I am paying for this microphone." It is considered by many a turning point in his campaign.

didn't he pay for that whole debate?

To make Biden's campaign spend more time in preparing for that topic and less time in preparing for other topics. Football coaches do that by exposing their trick plays. Just something else the other teams have to prepare for in practice or get their arse burned by it when they do play if they don't.

If you can’t acknowledge that Trump interrupted far more often and relentlessly than Biden, I just hope you’re not voting. It’s not up for debate.

They are trying to get Trump to back out so Joe doesn’t have to get exposed.

I think this is it. They are trying to make it so unpalatable to DJT that he backs out. They have also expanded the topics instead of just foreign policy. I think that is also an attempt to force the Trump team out of the debate so Joe can save face. Foreign policy is a big plus for Trump and it hasn't even been touched on during election process.

Mideast peace deal which is possibly spreading to other countries, compared to the Obama/Biden is a big advantage for Trump. Not too mentioned nominated for 2 Nobels for Peace deals in Mideast and Serbia/Kosovo.

If the debate happens, I think they will use the mute button to aggravate DJT and get him to lose his cool. THey might start using it again when he interjects after the initial 2 mins.
