That and the swampy 'jungle' was exactly why they shot it down there in 1918.

He also used to say that there was ALWAYS quicksand in those movies.
He'd say "It's like our worst fear....water looks shallow enough to not have to SWIM. But, NOOOOO...its just Thick Water!...drown anyway.Slowly"

So do most Florida residents so this is a non issue
Once the monkeys start snorting bath salts it's game over, man.

I don't think there were enough of them to create a self-sustaining breeding population there, however, so I doubt there are any left.
I bet they tasted delicious.

Wtf Florida has a wild monkey population?
They are escapees from Silver Springs. Silver Springs discharges into the Ocklawaha River. The Ocklawaha flows north from central Florida, through the Ocala National Forest until it joins the St. Johns River near Palatka.
I have fished this area all my life (69 yrs.) and always see the monkeys when fishing in the side creeks.
They have been in the forest since I was a young teen. We would leave them boiled peanuts and half drank beers, on a cypress stump when we saw them. This area is as wild as it was a hundred years ago.
If you have ever seen the old black & white Tarzan movies where Tarzan wrestles and kills the Crocs.(Of course fake in the movie) You have seen the Ocklawaha. It's 125 miles of twisting Crystal clear river during the dry season.

I think we have found a perfect location for our Pit Bull reserve. They can join their friends the monkeys on the field.

There have been monkeys in Ocala for decades. They were introduced to Silver Springs in the 1930s as part of tours of the river
I thought they were leftover from the original Tarzan movies.

They didn't use this type of monkey in the Tarzan movie. So no, not the same monkeys.

We also now have these weird-assed lizards too. They're about 18 inches long... ![](https://www.californiaherps.com/noncal/misc/misclizards/images/aagamafl3128.jpg)

I was standing there, looking out that window and I caught a glimpse of something, said Pritchard. I looked and there were 15 of them that came out and they were everywhere. But they kept looking like they could see or hear me in that shed.

I'm not an expert on monkey behavior and migratory patterns and lifestyle...unless you count my years in a fraternity house as a qualification.
