I have my suspicions but I'm not saying.

It was moved here from the OT, I think.

Would you get in trouble if you shot and killed those monkeys?

Yeah....it's not necessarily promoted, but they have been living in the woods around Silver Springs for about 70 years. Some guy bought a few back in the 1930's and kept them on an island on a river in Central Florida as part of the exhibit. Well, they learned how to swim and made it to the mainland . They have been migrating south over the years.

Will they live anywhere pretty much? As in, will they take over the southeast eventually?

Will we see this at some point?

Several monkeys escape during the filming of the old Tarzan movies in the 1930's and 1940's that were filmed in the Ocala area.

There is also a colony of non-native rhesus macaques which were introduced to the park in early 1938 by a tour boat operator, known locally as "Colonel Tooey," to enhance his "Jungle Cruise" ride. A local legend that they are the descendants of monkeys used to enhance the scenery for the Tarzan movies that were shot in the area in the 1930s is not true, since no Tarzan movie filmed in the area featured rhesus macaques

Either way, I had never heard of this colony. Cool.

It is very difficult to walk your monkey on a leash. I tried. When you pull and say 'No, don't eat that cigarette' they grab the leash and climb up it and sit on your arm and stare at you saying 'Now, what are ya gonna do?"

The same could be said for most Florida residents.

One of the earliest Tarzan movies was filmed in Baldwin, Louisiana.

My dad used to say (when we were in a crowded area):

"There's enough neegers here to film a Tarzan movie!"

made us laugh every time because of the way he said it!

I think it's funny that the natives in that old silent Tarzan movie were played by sharecroppers from nearby plantations.

That and the swampy 'jungle' was exactly why they shot it down there in 1918.
