I did not know of Navy maneuvers in the same area though

Obviously, you are not familiar with the event. There was a Navy helicopter crew that was filmed by local news saying that the Navy had shot down the plane. An investigator took a piece of a seat cushion from the wreckage and had it analyzed with rocket propellant being found on it. Hundreds of witnesses saw a rocket hit the plane.
All we ever got was "conspiracy theory" and "center fuel tank goes boom".

I used to think that about 9/11. Check my post history, I had personal reasons for thinking it wasn't possible, but I also had your same reasoning. The more we're seeing abuse of power out in the open, the more I believe the US Govt and deep state is capable of anything.

Eyewitness Major Fred Meyer, a Ret. Helo pilot says he saw a surface to air missile hit the jet. Not sure about anyone else, but I sure as hell would not insert myself into a major ordeal like that and lie about it. Why risk your reputation and invite all the bs that comes with it. I'm inclined to believe him.

Usually if an accident is mechanically related, modifications are made on the equipment. It didn't happen with the 747.
But, it is equally believable that that fancy fix too was an elaborate charade to coverup what really occurred. When you go all in on a lie, you gotta stay all in no matter the cost.

I’ve never believed we got an adequate explanation on this one, but this seems too far fetched. Isn’t this the one that was flying east over the Long Island Sound? Why would a Navy ship fire on an aircraft that was clearly coming from the continental US? Doesn’t make sense.
In the first few days of recovering parts there was a brief news story that explosive residue was found inside the cabin.
