i lived in germany for a dissertation fellowship and was on a student visa. i had to register my presence and address with the local government and could't open a checking account without registering.
it's amazing how easy it is in america to enter the country illegally, and once here, remain and floursh without any kind of difficulty compared to the rest of the world.

they don't bank now. I work for a major bank here in baton rouge, people opening accounts are required to show a state issued ID or DL, in addition to a SS number or tax ID number.

What amazes me even more is how many city employees there are in this country, who are illegal and are paid via direct deposit.

its not the problem the Trump admin is making it out to be, he needs a win so he is thinking this is an easy win. the amount of regulation that goes into banking is unreal. an executive order without changing the regulation is just a piece of paper with a signature on it
