fact is, if you take every race in the world, you've got a certain percentage of racists among them that are probably exactly the same percentage across the board - but that's a reasonable statement, consistent with the experience everyone knows, so you won't deal with that reality

You need a new job. Dont work with or have friends who are assholes.
The VAST majority of southerners could care less about a person being black or mexican. The people in my company only dislike the folks who dont do their jobs or do them poorly.
It is people like you, who put up with and support bad people that cause all this friction. These bad people are a small percentage and if everyone stood up to them and minimized them like they should they would not be nearly as big a problem.
Its like the trans people. They make up like 0.01% of the country but a lot of people bend over backwards for them and that gives them a voice.
