The sanctuary state stunt that has Maryland sheriffs seeing red — and fighting back
Maryland’s sanctuary-state fever is colliding headfirst with reality — and the state’s sheriffs have finally had enough.
In a move that should have happened the moment lawmakers cooked up this latest immigration restriction, 17 of Maryland’s 24 elected sheriffs have marched into federal court to challenge the so-called Community Trust Act. Despite its warm-and-fuzzy branding, critics say the law does the exact opposite of what its title promises: It makes cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities dramatically more difficult.
Welcome to the modern progressive playbook. Give a bill a comforting name, claim it builds trust, then act shocked when police officers point out it could make communities less safe.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Maryland with support from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), represents sheriffs from counties across the state. Together, they account for roughly 70 percent of Maryland’s sheriffs — hardly a fringe group of political agitators. These are the officials voters elected to protect their communities, and they’re warning that Annapolis politicians have placed them in an impossible position.

Unfortunately, they are from the rural counties that are dominated by the diseased oozing mass living in the DC suburbs and the hellhole that is Baltimore.

go east onto the eastern shore, or west into the appalachians, and MD is surprisingly red.
i would hate to be law enforcement in this state.
i thought trump was going to start using the power of the purse against these lawbreaking sanctuary cities/states, what happened to that?

They dont "legally" have to assist the federal govt.
Course when the midterms are over they will find out the federal govt does not have to "legally" have customs at their airports or provide air traffic control. We dont have to federally insure their banks, or offer them access to the net of phone service.
There are a lot of things the federal govt does for states who are part of the UNITED STATES, if they dont want to be a part of it, well so be it.
And for those who think its ridiculous, I ask you what you would have said 20 years ago if someone said a state will harbor illegals and defy the federal govt to do anything about it?
Time for the tail to stop wagging the dog with sanctuary places, all the friggin theft, and the nonsense with voting.

Yup.
Under New York v. US, feds can't order state officials what to do although it can place conditions on receipt of federal funds.

Oh, it's warm-and-fuzzy branding is dead on. It's designed to built trust between Democrats and the illegals' community by trying to place another bar in the path of law enforcement trying to help enforce federal immigration laws.

I remember reading that Sheriffs have ultimate LE jurisdiction down at the most basic level. And they have power to throw a wrench in any Unconstitutional mandates that come from 'Above'. If they are willing to pull the trigger and risk defunding and the military-backed muscle that comes with it. This was while back when Biden was doing his 'Nazi'/F-15s Speech.
Sheriffs live in an amongst those that they serve, to they are directly accountable in a very personal way.

We have a very similar problem here in Virginia. NOVA is the enemy here.
