The real purpose of gun background checks is to have you seek permission from government

They were sold as a safety measure but at the time they were implemented a spokesman for Handgun Control (now Brady Campaign) admitted the real aim was to condition people to believe that they needed government permission to engage in 2nd Amendment activity. No link, I lived it and remember reading it.

And the plan has largely worked, sadly. Even many pro-gun people accept that the checks should exist. But ask yourself, what other rights are you willing to seek government approval for before exercising?

The more you know!

If the democrats were actually serious about gun safety then they would be advocating gun sweeps in high crime areas and not supporting the ACLU & SPLC who see this as a civil rights infringement.

Member when the waiting period was a temporary measure that would be sun-setted once the technology for instant checks came along?

Not true. While many believe they are fine, others believe they are an unnecessary stepping stone of government regulation. Between the vast availability of acquiring firearms through illegal means and the lack of enforcement by the government on failed checks, as well as the numerous times mass shootings and other murders were performed by people who passed background checks, some people believe it's an infringement on exercising a right that does very little to accomplish the reason for its existence.

If they confiscate those weapons in high crime areas, that would violate the 2nd Amendment you say you hold so near and dear.

Looks like you want it both ways, confiscate the other guy's gun but not mine.

What other rights should the government give approval for? Speech? The invented right to have an abortion?

Voting should be restricted.

Therefore the answer is to prosecute gun crimes more aggressively. I agree with that approach personally.

You need government approval to hunt, fish, cut hair, and drive a car.

Not really. You don't have a right to be an active part of a violent criminal organization like a gang nor do you have the right to be in possession of a stolen gun or any other piece of property.

Start there.

None of those are enumerated Constitutional rights.

While I agree, there is no Federal right to vote.

Any individual right stops when it endangers another individuals rights.

* the context is high crime areas with known gang members*

You have a right to make a living via employment...in fact most rights require the ability to support oneself. Should employers be able to do background checks before hiring an individual?

True, not enumerated clearly but many scholars sneak it into the 9th amendment.
