It is incredible the power people allow arbitrary words to have over their emotions.
I have seen grown adults look like they may faint from the deep offense they take at one profanity slipping out. A colorful substitution for the word "feces" can have them gasping as if they've just witnessed murder.
Major news can be made for a racial insult that rappers routinely use like a period.
Ben Stiller can make entire comedies openly mocking people with intellectual disabilities with little comment but Elon Musk makes an offhand insult not at all aimed at the same people using "the r word" and you get this.
How about rolling your eyes, making your own judgements and moving on... rather than this constant whining about how a word is some "grim cultural sign" rather than the murder, pedophilia, rape, theft, arson, fraud and other criminal behavior the same hysterial bedwetters routinely shrug at?

Releasing Tropic Thunder in 2025 would likely garner a far different response lol

What the left is doing is trying to bring up one of the many old stories they fabricated since 2016. This is the one where they stated Trump directly made fun of a retarded person.
Keep in mind these are the same people that clapped for pedo Joe when he asked a real person in a wheel chair to stand up.

I think I am basically in your camp on this. First and foremost to me is that I don't care for speech police, but a separate question is whether a thoughtful adult should go around using words that would be offensive to someone who suffers from the condition. For whatever reason, it's not a word I recall using much--though my middle school days were long ago--and I don't plan to add it my vocabulary.

People need to hear real words instead of being afraid of them.

A real retard wouldn't be offended, because...well, their retarded. It's the overly sensitive people that feel as though they need to "stand" for something.
It's a silly thing to get sidetracked with.
We say stupid all the time, I don't hear stupid people complaining...... Lol
Seriously... Lighten up folks
