The earnings itself does not warrant a red flag. It's more that it was entirely in cash rather than remittance from insurance companies.

Maybe it's not as odd as I imagined it to be while watching the documentary

Did you report her to the Medical Board?

Dr. Clegget?

She was the lady that Dan in the miniseries reported who deposited $2M / yr in cash in her bank.

When I deposed the pain management doctor all those years ago, no I didn’t report her. I regret it.

Family or not, if you're taking drugs that you know are bad for your health, then you're an idiot. There's just no way around this.

OP is proposing a free Bernie-like healthcare bailout for junkies who want to get high. All you would do is tell future would-be junkies that it's ok to do drugs since they can always get free treatment afterwards. That would be extremely expensive for us and irresponsible for future generations.

Cash is king baw. There must be some sort of incentive to pay with cash, perhaps a little discount. Surely so, actually.

Reminds me of those gas stations that offer a discounted fuel price if paying with cash. That just seems, I dunno, a clear signal of untoward activity going on in the tax area. Surely should invite an audit or something, amirite? Or amiwrong?

That’s exactly the opposite of what OP proposed.

Again. I hope nobody you love ends up touched by this problem.

That's no reason to bailout stupid choices. You're basically advocating for free welfare for the dumb and stupid. If you have issues in life (which we all do) and the first thing you do is run towards drugs, then that's on you. We shouldn't have to pay taxes for your dumb choices.

If she was being paid in cash, and I believe most of her revenue was cash, I'd bet she wasn't depositing most of it in the bank. I'd also bet she was an addict herself back then, the condition of her house sure suggests it. I think she's also got brain damage from the accident she was in. I was really shocked she sat for an interview, she was either heavily medicated, or does have brain damage. Regardless, I'm really surprised a family member or a lawyer didn't step in and keep her from doing that interview. She was clearly impaired.

Is he functionally retarded? Opiate addiction wasn’t exactly a closely held secret; we’ve known about morphine addiction since the Civil War.

I see a lot of venom in this thread directed at pharma and pill mills, some of it probably deserved, but very little at users. And now, thanks largely to the legal profession and government, you have people in real pain that are just told to suck it up. It’s a mess, but it’s not exactly a Good Guys vs Bad Guys situation.

Satisfaction with pain control and reimbursement are once again decoupled, as they were before obamacare.

Mentioned this in another thread that was on the OT a couple of weeks ago about the documentary. I’ve known “Chris”(that’s his real first name but has always gone by his middle name) since elementary school and served together in the same platoon in the Marine Reserves and overseas during Desert Storm. What you see is what you get...straight shooter who’s blunt and doesn’t sugarcoat anything. Great dude and glad to call him a good friend for life.

This might be true in some cases but I have well over 100 tabs in a bottle in my sock drawer that me and my wife have accumulated over a few years because we don't really take them when they are prescribed to us.

My brother had a botched surgery and has an oxy script but only takes them when needed.

Maybe we live somewhere that the crackdown hasn't been as bad?

I freaking loved him.

You can tell him he has at least one female super fan who thinks he’s a bad arse. He was great. Glad to hear this wasn’t fake.

Plus he’s hilarious and articulate and has excellent placement of F Bombs.
