Chile Bishops resign
This comes after Pope Francis' previous attempts to handle the situation including appointing Barros bishop of Osorno, Chile, in 2015 (who was considered one of the main people a part of the problem.)
All in all, the saga continues...what's it going on 20 years since the scandals started to unfold?

Every Chilean bishop offered to resign Friday (May 18) over a sex abuse and cover-up scandal, in the biggest shakeup ever in the Catholic Church's long-running abuse saga
quote:
all 31 active bishops and three retired ones in Rome had signed a document offering to resign and putting their fate in the hands of the pope
quote:
It marked the first known time in history that an entire national bishops conference had offered to resign en masse over scandal

"No one can exempt himself and place the problem on the shoulders of the others," Francis wrote in the document

After receiving the Scicluna-Bertomeu report, though, Francis did an about-face. Blaming a "lack of truthful and balanced information" about the case for his missteps, Francis invited the three main whistleblowers to the Vatican hotel he calls home so he could apologize in person.

It seems the giant spider god really is running the Vatican.

As a Catholic, I hope I’m right that this particular problem has its roots in the mid twentieth century, and not further back than that.
If that’s so, then sadly it’s not surprising that much of the current leadership of the Church would be corrupt in this same way, just due to the fact that the last 30 years or so is when they would have reached positions of higher authority in the Church.

Can Father Maxi go through the Pitfall tunnels and find what he needs?
They need to tell the Gilgamek delegation to frick off.

Resignations aren't enough for those that participated in or contributed towards the abuse of children.

that's just sad, man. the culture of how to cover this shite up is much, much older. I mean, it takes generations to master that.
It's supreme power. no one questions you.

Catholics man.
I wouldn't dare trust my child with a single one of their priests.

It is almost like the Pope is having a bad May...

I absolutely agree. Hopefully, the Pope turns this and them over to the courts to lock them away.

no, I'm sure not all of them directly molested a child, but they are ALL accountable for the cover-up.
It looks like Francis is cutting it off...all of it. He tried a different approach, but it did not work. Now, he's cutting it all out.

Wasn't he in SA and possibly involved in at least the coverup o this mess?
The whole thing needs to be thrown into the lake of fire...

quote:Good point. I'm guessing it's going to break soon that he either participated in or supported (covering up?) the abuse.

Martin Luther was the 'Q' of his day.

Yes, you can blame the institution for this. But, you also need to understand the size and power of the institution.
Not you necessarily but too many people like to simply blame the Catholics for this. The lesson to learn from this is not that. It's what abuse of power can lead to.
Penn State anyone? And that was a pimple on a mole's arse.

Religion and religious history is loaded with Homosexuals and Pedophilia. It is sick.
