IF this is true (I haven't seen a direct quote from Putin to this extent), Putin will eventually get his shite pushed in as the rest of NATO, the EU, etc would have no choice but to respond militarily.
Russia trying to go into Poland would be about like the US trying to make landfall in WW2 Japan without dropping nukes. Over 50% of their nearly 38M population is 15-54 and you can bet at least a solid 10% (so at least 1.5-1.6M) would take up arms. The fighting would be street-to-street, house-to-house and bloody as hell. If Russia were to feel the need to use short-range, tactical nukes, I could easily see their first targets being in Poland.
The bigger question in all of this is: what would China do if Putin engaged NATO?
Sit on the sidelines and wait to join late on the winning side? Take Taiwan while we're distracted? Use their artificial sea bases to expand their reach through going after SK, Japan, etc? Quietly fund and supply Russia?
