What a terrible position some of these countries are in. The US is bullying them into these positions and now the citizens of all these countries, including ours, are going to suffer. Globalists are driving this train and don’t give a shite about people, at all

Is this ruble related or retaliation against Germany for agreeing to provide Ukraine with armored vehicles yesterday?

Trump warned Europe.

Igor Girkin (Strelkov) wrote an update about the Kiev offensive, and the retreat.
Girkin was a GRU Col. and led the militia in the Donbas in 2014.
Girkin wrote that the airborne forces were originally told to advance on Kiev quickly as possible, and “not to worry about what they left behind.”
It was what everyone has written.
They were trying to reach Kiev in a lightning push. The northern column was supposed to reach the air assault detachment at Hostomel in 24 hours. Instead, it took two days.
The basic assumption was wrong, that the Ukrainian forces would collapse, the terrain was terrible, the Russian supply line was untenable, they stretched 100s of KMs into Belarus, they were also undefended, and because of the destruction of the bridges in the Dnieper, the two Russian columns couldn’t support each other. Bridging equipment would have helped the last problem. But they didn’t have it.
Last of all, they didn’t have enough men to take Kiev, and they were sizably outnumbered by the Ukrainians.
In WW2, the Soviets suggested a 13:1 force ratio for Urban operations, IIRC.
It was over before it ever started. So withdrawing was the only logical option, which they’ve done, but much later than they should have.

I suspect Kiev was a grab it if you can operation. And if you can't, tie down as many troops as possible for as long as possible.

If they take the rest of the country in the south and east why do they need Kyiv? They don’t. They would have been idiots to try with the resistance.

Then they were idiots because they tried.
Putin wanted a big prize. Kyiv was his Paris but it became his Moscow.

I think Putin had designs on ousting Zelensky and installing a Moscow-controlled puppet government. I can only assume that this objective was only possible by way of planting his flag in the seat of national government. But it appears to be neither here nor there now.

If it had worked, the war would have ended overnight.
I don’t think they want Kiev though, as you suggest.

Okay, so they take large chunks of eastern and southern Ukraine, then what?… it’s gonna cost them thousands more lives over the next few weeks to pull that off. And then, occupation?… is russia gonna spend billions to rebuild infrastructure in these areas?… keep troops mobilized in these areas for months/years?

The east and south are majority pro Russia, not that they wouldn’t have problems

Scaring off tens of thousands and then murdering the people who stayed will do that.

They have voted heavily for Russia friendly politicians in those areas for years. People saying otherwise are lying. That’s where most of the population is too
