Ukraine of course, indicated Russia has 12,000 dead.

To put in context how unbelievable this number is - we are under a month into the conflict and this is basically a year’s worth of US deaths during the worst part of Vietnam

12k dead is bullshite… 12k total casualties (killed captured wounded) is probably more accurate.

Even that is suspect.

12,000 of the 35,000 are no longer able to fight? If that was the case the Russians would not be advancing on all fronts. They would have declared victory with the land they held weeks ago and set up defensive positions.

Russians are bringing in Chechens and Syrians to fight… it’s a very real possibility they’ve suffered heavier than expected casualties

Unbelievable perhaps, but not improbable. Nearly 100,000 Red Army soldiers died in the Battle of Berlin in 1945 and all of that was in just 16 days.

Any state movement of Syrians to the battlefield should be destroyed by the US.

If foreigners go there to fight at their own will and their own dollar that is their choice.

If Russia wants Russians to die in Kiev its one thing, If they send in paid mercenaries to do their work we should destroy the planes, ships, trains or buses bringing them onto the battlefield.

Yes there have been many set-piece battles with extremely high casualty rates. The Russians are attacking often in the face of prepared defenses so casualties could be quite high.

some anecdotal accounts...just from the axis from Belarus to NW Kiev.

RadioFreeEurope

The bodies of Russian soldiers killed in battle in Ukraine are filling up morgues in Belarus, local residents told RFE/RL.

Russian soldiers killed in battle are being brought by truck to the morgues and then sent back to Russia by train or plane, residents said.

Residents described the horror of seeing the bodies loaded on a train at Mazyr for transfer back to Russia.

“The number of bodies was unbelievably large. People at the Mazyr station were simply shocked by the number of bodies being put on the train,” a local resident in Mazyr told RFE/RL.

Russian military doctrine doesn’t appear to really care about (or be able to minimize) high casualty rates…. Western governments have set up their whole military structure around minimizing their own battlefield casualties.

We may never really know the full extent of the losses.

Yeah Russia looks like they want to overwhelm the opposition by throwing bodies forward. A ton will die but many will make it as well.

Stalin's way of dealing with a mine field was to run troops across it.

The joke was that Stalin's mine sweepers were men stomping across the mine field with their hands covering their ears.

Holodomor

Some 6 million Ukrainians were intentionally starved to death by Stalin in 1932-33 which is known as the Great Famine. And while millions were starving and not allowed to leave the Soviets were exporting grain. This is spelled out in great detail in Chapter 8 (the Great Famine) of the excellent 858-page The Black Book of Communism translated from the French and authored by six French researchers. It's a great resource that documents the 100 MILLION peoples killed by Communism from 1917 to 1990. Including some 25 million in the USSR, 65 million in China, and 1.7 million in Cambodia. Please see the below article from the Casbar list (author not included) about this intentional Famine by Stalin and his USSR:

Stalin had previously "exiled" the five to six million of the upper crust of Ukraine society. They were never seen again.

The Black Book of Communism needs to be required reading for high schools and colleges.

No, they wont keep throwing bodies forward like that. Might seem that way right now, but theyre just moving troops as close as they can before they start lobbing more and more shells at the city where their troops will be going into shortly afterwards. Leaves no time for ukraines replacements to get there to fight them. Its going to get uglier.
