Nothing does more to attack the 2nd amendment than gun crimes.

The NRA should use its considerable power to lobby for extremely harsh sentences for gun crimes.

In cities like Chicago, the sentences for those arrested for illegal gun possession, stolen weapons, shootings and armed robbery are woefully weak.

People are getting arrested up to ten times with a weapon before serving time.

Coming out strong on this issue would be a winning strategy for the NRA.

People want to “do something.”

This is something.

And it focuses on criminals, not legal gun owners.

If you aren’t for harsher penalties for criminals, then you forfeit your opinion on penalizing legal gun owners.

We can't get the laws ON the books enforced worth a shite

And frankly, every liberal in here agreeing is full of shite because if you think minorities are heavily incarcerated now, start going in hard on gun crime

The hand wringing will be heard a light year away

It’s not enforcement of the laws, it’s the sentencing.

If you are convicted, but get 60 days, then the law has technically been enforced.

If true, it's likely the don't have cells to hold all the inmates or guards to oversee them.

I know you carry 1000 race cards ready to deploy at a moment's notice and i know that increased sentencing of this sort would massively affect minorities

You all would shite your panties

They've been doing this for decades. The NRA has been a big supporter of having gun crimes tried under federal law which carries much harsher penalties. Project exile comes to mind.

I'm left of center, and totally support harsher sentences. Ideally this would take place in conjunction with reforming sentences for lesser drug crimes to focus more on rehabilitation than incarceration.

This is a great idea that both sides could agree on.

Therefore, it won’t happen.

The NRA should focus on decriminalizing marijuana to help eradicate the gang violence that accounts for roughly 90% of gun homicides.

Not sure why NRA would waste time trying to fix something leaders in Chicago don't care to try to fix for themselves. Gun crimes are pretty harsh already. I don't disagree with the concept but I would start with enforcing what we have at our disposal already. Not letting the nutcase that did the Florida shooting fall through the cracks would be a nice start
