It's true in some ways. One of the most annoying ways is in lily white cities that fancy themselves "progressive", but who never have to actually, you know, spend time with black people.

I always say the south is more of BOTH: since we spend so much time in and around each other, we like each other more and also have more friction.

I live in a town that's 55% white and 45% black. SC has one of the highest populations of blacks in the country. There is more interaction between the races here in a week than your average New Englander has in his or her entire life.

It depends on what you mean by racist, exactly.

You're more likely to hear Southerners of any color drop epithets and express ideas about the other groups. However, they are more likely to get along in shared spaces and there are generally not many problems. The Yankees who proclaim to be the most race tolerant/woke are also the most likely to live in lily white neighborhoods with no interactions with those of a different race, and take a very patronizing and savior complex view of others.

IMO, of course.

My experience are 2 things.

1. Half don’t hate minorities because they don’t know any. I had guys I went to basic training with that literally had never been around them. 8 weeks of basic training and they were more racist than us southern boys.
2. They love them as long as they don’t have to be around them.

I’m a firm believer that most people are racist at their core. Not that they hate the other races, but the point that they like their race more. Like it or don’t like it, people are different. They think, act, and live differently.

I’ve heard it. Can’t say I’ve spent enough time above the Mason-Dixon Line to find out for myself.

Umm yeah. In fact, the most racist City in America is Boston and it's not even close.

I’ve heard an anecdote from Thomas Sowell where he said blacks fed the Jim Crow era south only to be met with equal if not more vitriol by white northerners. Because of this, The Nation of Islam was formed and birthed in cities like Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York to take the place of the civil rights movement occurring in the heart of Dixie.

I think southerners are in general less racist, as in the terms of willing to interact, socialize, do business with different races, but are much more willing to make race based jokes. Northerners like to virtue signal and chastise those jokes, until they must interact with people of different color and then it’s a very different story. Especially if they are from the northern Midwest or Lilly white areas of the north east or PNW

I judge people by the content of their character. Not, by the region in which they live.

I hate the wanton appellation of “racist” and I will not paint it on with a broad brush.

I’ve traveled around the country a bit. We are all more alike than we are different

Don’t tell sanctimonious costal elites that. They are much better than us in rural, fly-over states

True or false this is certainly not the best approach to get an honest answer...for hopefully obvious reasons.

You can spot the Yankees here in SC because they're the one's who act afraid when approached by a black man.

Oregon and Idaho are like that. Yes supposed liberal bastion Oregon has some of the most racists in America.

The state is like 1% Black. That 1% black is mostly isolated on College Campuses.

They have fought for 100 years to keep Mexicans and Blacks out.

"Don't Californicate Oregon" was the 70's motto - which was keep Oregon 100% white.

There were Boise State fans who were pissed when a black guy proposed to a white cheerleader on National TV after the Fiesta Bowl. Ian Johnson said they got death threats.

Used to work with a guy from New Jersey. He told me shite that I've never seen growing up in the south. It's very much a "stay on your side of town" attitude from what he told me

Yes, but not in the ways you expect in the south. For example in NYC a lot of the Dominicans had race riots with the Jewish of all people in the early 90s.

Its not simply white vs black like it is in a lot of the south.

I was born in the south, spent 6 years in northeast Ohio, the north is more racist by far. At the very least they are more segregated, each group sticks to each other. In the south our public schools introduced you to other races, daily life put you in contact with other races, local bars put you in contact with other races
