Weaponized speech? .

shite like this is why Trump won. Liberals are their own worst enemy. They love to play two games; the victim olympics and the Nuremberg anti-conservative trials.

“Because so many free-speech claims of the 1950s and 1960s involved anti-obscenity claims, or civil rights and anti-Vietnam War protests, it was easy for the left to sympathize with the speakers or believe that speech in general was harmless,” he said. “But the claim that speech was harmless or causally inert was never true, even if it has taken recent events to convince the left of that. The question, then, is why the left ever believed otherwise.”

well isn't that fricking convenient

As I always say , I may not agree with your harmless or casually inert speech but I will defend your right to harmless or casually inert speech to the death.

Justices Douglas and Black are turning in their graves. Two of the most liberal justices in Supreme Court history, who bravely argued that prior restraints on political speech were per se unconstitutional, would not recognize modern American liberalism.

The New York Times, a former newspaper,
I really wish the daily wire would let you pay for the shows individually. I have no use for Shapiro’s podcast but Andrew Klavan is great. He makes my day better. Hell, I like Michael Knowles show a lot as well.

I like that Shapiro, Klavan, and Knowles all have different tenors to their shows. All are very good.

I love Klavan's sense of humor, though. Half the time he cracks up at his own opening monologues And the way both Shapiro and Klavan rag on Knowles constantly.

Good group.

In a democracy, the more speech the better.

How is this not understood?

There's a reason it's the FIRST amendment. It's absolutely the most important tenant of our society. If the 1st amendment goes you can call it a day, America is done, and that's not hyperbole.

The fact that everyone doesn't recognize this is alarming.

Abolishing the first amendment (directly or indirectly) would cause more of a civil war than abolishing the 2nd IMO.

because if we all have free speech, those with power have more (powerful?) speech

fairness is more important than universal rights

the journalist who wrote this piece would have a fricking meltdown if you told zher similar arguments re: the press

"larger outlets are wielding unfair power to report their corporatized media messages. we need to rethink the 1st Amendment to curb this"

Actually, imho, it’s the second most important. The single most important tenet of our society is the right to own private property. But I’m with ya man. Don’t mean to nitpick.

i've made this argument a few times on here

speech becomes much more symbolic after a while. property rights give you legit power and domain

To the contrary, free speech reinforces and amplifies injustice, Catharine A. MacKinnon, a law professor at the University of Michigan, wrote in “The Free Speech Century,” a collection of essays to be published this year.

I wonder if they like fries and a shake with that authoritarianism.
