I guess I don't understand the anger at the whistleblower though as they did nothing illegal. I understand being unhappy at the result, but you should be mad at the ones who told him the info.
The whistleblower did something that is perceived as being anti-Trump. Here, that is quite enough to brand the man as a traitor and a criminal.

The interesting thing is people make the argument that he can't be a whistleblower because he doesn't have first hand knowledge of what happened. I'm not sure if that's the case or not, but I don't see how this person would be guilty of leaking though. You can't leak if you don't have first hand knowledge. If this person got his information from others telling him, then I don't see how that person does anything wrong. The people telling him are leaking, but the whistleblower itself is not. In the end, it's a moot point as it would be incredibly ruinous for the White House to go after the whistleblower from a legal standpoint. The optics of that are horrible.
He is currently employed by the CIA and leaked classified information. And yes the WH will go after him, he is not a whistleblower, he did, however, break federal law.

If a whistleblower must be a witness to a criminal or unethical act, than this person isn't a whistleblower --- just a leaker.

quote:
spy /spi/ noun a person who secretly collects and reports information on the activities, movements, and plans of an enemy or competitor.
By that definition, anyone who sees something happen or hears something happen that the person does not know it's happen would be a spy. That is clearly not the normal use of the word spy.

you are playing a useless game of semantics.
The fact is, the whistleblower tried to use a legal process to propagate rumors and media reports. This was an attempt (much like the dossier) to launder fake news into actionable intelligence. Nothing more, nothing less. Call that whatever you like.

quote:WJB was a complex fellow. He described himself as both a libertarian and a conservative. (Buckley, William F. Jr. Happy Days Were Here Again: Reflections of a Libertarian Journalist, Random House, ISBN 0-679-40398-1, 1993.).
Are you doing the whole ASURob thing where you use conservative images in your avi and sig as a sort of digital "beard" to mask your dripping leftism?
He was intelligent and eloquent, and I agreed with him FAR more than with any other figure in recent American history. Here is his view of Trump:
quote:
Look for the narcissist. The most obvious target in today’s lineup is, of course, Donald Trump. When he looks at a glass, he is mesmerized by its reflection. If Donald Trump were shaped a little differently, he would compete for Miss America. But whatever the depths of self-enchantment, the demagogue has to say something. So what does Trump say? That he is a successful businessman and that that is what America needs in the Oval Office. There is some plausibility in this, though not much. The greatest deeds of American Presidents — midwifing the new republic; freeing the slaves; harnessing the energies and vision needed to win the Cold War — had little to do with a bottom line.

How is this person a spy? Other people told him this. If you want to be unhappy with someone, be mad at them.

Bottom line, this person was a simple leaker and should be punished. Let Congress cry their eyes out, not much they can do about it but impeach, and they don't have the votes to convict.
This is a fight to the death, let's get to it. Lock all the SOB's involved up and put a stop to this kind of nonsense.

No I don’t. I am director of a small nonprofit that focuses on education.

That’s saying whoever reports information they are given is spying. I’m sorry but I fundamentally disagree. We’re the Post and Times spying when they published the Pentagon Papers?

Did you really just quote a footnote from Wikipedia?
Buckley was intelligent and eloquent; he was also something of a drama queen. And according to the Buckley Rule, he would have happily voted for Trump in the general and would vote for him again in 2020.

If you actually believe that Buckley would have supported Trump over Cruz or perhaps even Paul (viable?), I can only refer you to my favorite snarky Buckley quote.

Ideologically I agree with you. But I’m not sure Buckley would not have been so appalled by the current crop of Democrats he wouldn’t have understood winning was priority 1, and fighting priority 2.

Does that work for you on this forum? Preface a claim absolutely nobody made with "If you actually believe........"? Referencing Buckley doesn't magically make your replies intelligent, and a lack of reading comprehension (or more likely, plain dishonesty) does quite the opposite.
Me, bolded to help you understand.
