That is more based on definitional multiplicity than on justice itself. For example, for the family of a murder victim, there can be no justice. At least none not including the resurrection of their murdered family member.

So then "justice," in the manner which you are using the term, actually pertains not to justice, but rather to a societal response to an injustice. In that regard, the tension is between Deterrence (generating an observable cost of criminal action) and Restoration (protecting society while keeping the door open for spiritual redemption). Both sides claim to be respondent to the offense; they just disagree on whether a dead offender or an imprisoned offender satisfies that cosmic requirement.
