Judge Juan Merchan, who is overseeing former President Donald Trump’s case in Manhattan, violated New York’s Code of Judicial Conduct by making three donations to Democrats in 2020, which could be grounds for an ethics investigation, according to several legal experts and former prosecutors.

Under Section 100.5 of the New York Code of Judicial Conduct, sitting judges cannot “directly or indirectly engage in any political activity.” Prohibited political activity includes “(h) soliciting funds for, paying an assessment to, or making a contribution to a political organization or candidate.”

quote:

According to the FEC records, Merchan donated $15.00 to Biden for President — the campaign of Trump’s opponent, on July 26, 2020, via ActBlue.

On July 27, 2020, he donated $10.00 to Progressive Turnout Project, an organization dedicated to turning out Democrat voters, and $10.00 to Stop Republicans, a part of Progressive Turnout Project “dedicated to resisting the Republican Party and Donald Trump’s radical right-wing legacy,” also via ActBlue.

According to Stephen Gillers, a legal ethics expert and law professor at New York University, such donations are forbidden.

Upstate may have some non-retard judges.

NYC and Long Island though? That’s different.

No shite. 35 dollars is going to be a huge headache for this judge. What a moron. To laugh at it, like SS, is even more moronic. Those far left wackos should be ashamed. They aren’t though. Fascists.

If I’m being honest this sounds a little like a violation of the first amendment.

What part of violating the Code of Judicial Ethics do you find hilarious?

If I'm being honest I learn more and more each day that people are clueless about the protections of the First Amendment. It's not a license to immunity from any recourse.

He’s a democrat. There will be nothing investigated or done.

The rules do not apply to them.

If he had donated $10 to Trump the leftists would be outraged and he'd already have been thrown off the case and probably removed.

But pointing out the latter by finding a link listing that information is supposedly painting a target on the judge and his family.

Which is fricking hilarious coming from people who sent goons to harass SCOTUS justices and told marshals not to arrest anyone for doing so.

Now reverse the politics. The left would be screaming bloody murder and rioting outside the judge’s house.
