re: The IRS has "lost" all Lois Lerner emails to and from the White House, DOJ...

After reading the politico story on this, it appears to be different from what most understand. Presently the IRS' system is large enough to 6000 emails. Back then the limit was 1600. When your IRS computer reached capacity, you were required to archive your old email. Lerner did on her own personal computer. It's that computer which crashed.
The IRS has retrieved about 24,000 emails of Lerner related by retrieving to, from and CC of other employees during that period.
This suggests a few things:
1. It's not the IRS computers that crashed so it's not the ridiculous excuse of the dog ate my homework for the IRS.
2. It is however for Lerner.
3. Seems an IT forensics examination could determine if her computer did crash, when and if the emails are recoverable.
4. I'm wondering if the deleted emails from the IRS computer is recoverable.
5. That's a shitty system for the IRS to use including requiring employees to back up on their own.

The Feds have multiple backups and servers that retain this type of data - emails, information management systems, personal drives, and network drives. No way it wasn't backed up.
On multiple occasions, I have had my personal files deleted when I moved from office to office. One simple call to my local help desk, and they restored it from the night before. No way they can get away skirting this excuse.

Even more convenient....

It's the only one in the whole IRS that crashed.

The point remains, though, VB, that emails are not stored locally only. They are stored somewhere on a server.
The computer I'm using at home right now could crash , but that doesn't mean I'll lose my emails. I've actually had a computer crash, and I never lost any emails, and that was 10+ years ago.
Emails pass through the network servers of your ISP and are stored there. Your account allows you access to you emails; it doesn't put them onto your personal computer.
Lois Lerner may well have had some emails saved on her personal computer, but there are copies archived on a server somewhere of every email she sent via that device.
Anyone who uses a computer crash as an excuse not to produce emails is simply lying. You know it, I know, the whole world knows it.

I've said from the beginning that I was questionable as to how far up the chain the direction made it... I still don't think Obama said "Target these groups". Now could someone in his circle have said it, most definitely.
Having said that, with all the other bs and this added situation, I have no doubt that Lerner most certainly abused her office in order to target groups. She signed off and gave direction. Now whether someone "above" her gave the wink and nod, I still don't know... But that fricking count is def guilty.

The emails are there...it's just a matter of how long due process FORCES them to be released. With Holder running interference...a long time.
But if the Senate flips this Fall...a lot will change. People who respect THE RULE OF LAW, are outraged; because we all know where this leads. The precedents of blatant obstruction re the rule of law...are unprecedented. And unless this stuff is punished...it's a slippery slope to only God knows where.
Disgusting. Disheartening. And disrespectful of what is at the very core of human progress. We'll pay dearly if we let it pass because Obama is Black...and/or he really cares.

81...do your really think that gal would make a decision on her own, based upon the potential s*%&-storm that would be spawned when the MO became known?

You underestimate how fricking ignorant govt employees are.

Some of you people are so extreme... You go out and assume that Obama has his hands in everything even though Jarrett and the other goons run the asylum.

This one goes all the way to the top. Likely never be proven, but objectively reasonable persons really have no other logical conclusion right now.
Posted on 6/15/14 at 11:45 am to Lsut81
Who runs the show up there, 81? Where does the buck stop...especially when it comes to using the IRS to punish political opposition? Ignorance is now and excuse? You can't dodge a speeding ticket by pleading ignorance!
Get on record here (for what that's worth
)...you really believe that Jarret or some desk jock would make a call to utterly (potentially) DESTROY the legacy of the FIRST Black President?
And that's not taking into account criminal liability.
Dude...he ain't worth it! It's not just a game...or a mind game. This stuff can have serious potential hurt; private (psychologically) and collective. Just like screwing up over in Iraq/Afghanistan re the Islamists. And the healthcare mechanism. And the macro-economy (QE madness/exponentially-increasing debt). And the open border. And the respect for Law...starting at the top and going down.
I pray to God that there are enough HONEST folk out there to put this genie back in it's God-forsaken box...before it spreads to the masses. Because if the those in charge of respecting/enforcing the Law...can diss it...then we all can. It's called hypocrisy, and is pernicious to civil society.
Oh well.

I don't doubt it for a second. Hell, he may even pardon her BEFORE she's prosecuted.

Vegas, a long email is 75kb.
1600 emails would only be 117mb of server storage.
Today, the article says they have server storage for 6000 emails?
That's only 439mb.
A free gmail account has 15gb of storage.
Are you telling me that someone with a free gmail account has 34 times or even 60 times the email storage of a high ranking IRS official?
75kb is a big email. The average is probably much, much less. Do the math.

That's why they need to subpoena William Wilkins' emails as well.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit, mtn. I can remember when a lot of us Righties/anti-Leftist called Obama a *Socialist* in the Reverend Wright ("spiritual mentor") model, and speculated at just how far Obama/Progs would go to accomplish the "fundamental change"........and we were mocked and called *extremists* etc.
Thank God Almighty that the Military despises this man (his principles/values), and that - 'by their fruits ye shall know them' - people who used to believe in Obama's honesty are now being educated and politically motivated....or our asses would be in a real bind! We'd look like Syria within a month if he thought he could impose a military crackdown.
And George Bush lied.
I'm going to have to slack off this stuff for a while; got too much hard work to do. Too much negative energy. The 'chickens coming to roost' will do the educating of the electorate, no matter what the MSM liars and spinners try to do. Reality is the ultimate arbiter of what ideas work and what don't.

Anything new on this since it was initially reported?

Doubtful, Grrrl; they will just stall for years using every legal pretense imaginable. Like Fast n Furious. Obama will employ Executive Privilege if necessary; and provoke a Constitutional crisis. And blame it on racism. Honesty...will not prevail on this one. We'll have to weather the storm.
The lesson learned - for them that learn - is just what government is capable of when dishonest people hold the power. I don't know which is worse....them that are up there just to skim...or them that are committed to their vision of wealth inequality and economic parity. We pay dearly either way.
And they open the border, and *offer* us all equal access to health care.
There are many things in this life that one has to experience, in order to understand. I suspect that the wisdom of the Founders re Government is lost on most of this generation. Live and learn.
We'll get through it. Fascinating really.
