At least WA doesn't have a state income tax. On the flipside you have to pay for parking in your apartment but that's nothing compared to what I pay in income tax each month
True. That CA income tax is a bitch.

Both of these places are fine. La Jolla is where all the rich people live. I'd live there if my work was closer to it.
Yes ..the rental apt downtown where too cheap relatively speaking so I knew there was a reason.. We had this happen in downtown Portland so I figured it best to stay further away and drive in to do stuff like go see the Padres. The neighborhood we found LaJolla Farms Rd..is very nice and no way could I ever afford to own a home out there.

I am in south orange county.

At least this area is pretty republican.

I have lived here for a while, but I have to admit, the extreme increase in crowds/traffic has me thinking if it is worth it anymore.

South Orange County is beautiful open land for the most part. But it is changing quick.

Do you get panhandled for money or gas or food literally everywhere you go?

I have no idea how anyone can afford a home here. I make well well above the median salary here and not a snowball's chance. I am guessing people are doing gimmick mortgages like interest only, ARM mortgages or stretching their budget to do 30 year mortgages and paying a high percentage of their income on their mortgage.

My salary in almost every other state I would be able to ball out and easily buy a home, and not just buy a home but be able to pay it off quickly. Here its an upper middle class salary at best.

I really liked units I saw in Kearny Mesa

I lived in Kearny Mesa when I worked in SD in 2005-2006. It was a nice area, no homeless or crime that I can remember. Of course, a lot can change in 13 years.

Had a 3 day on site interview in Boise back in December. Last day they offered me the job... $35k. I laughed, got on the plane and went home for Christmas. It really rubbed me the wrong way because the recruiter gave me a number much much higher than that.

It's funny how liberals whine about income inequality yet California is the most unequal state I have seen.

Kind of like how coastal elites whine about racism and equal opportunity for all from their gated white only/upper-class only communities and exclusive private white only schools in cities with populations that are 97% white.

Data Science. Here is the problem with the Data Science field. It's not enough to have data science experience, companies want you to have data science experience in the field/industry the company is in. Otherwise they treat you like you have no experience and are an unqualified stooge. Which pisses me off because data science is data science.

That's why those assholes in Boise offered me $35k. "Muh you have no experience with data science in THIS sector of the industry so we have to pay you an entry level wage until you learn data science in THIS industry". frick them

I got lucky and got hired for a senior data science manager role here in San Diego for the industry and sector I have built up my experience in. However these jobs are few and far between. I beat out 92 other candidates for this role somehow. I do like my job here and the people I work with, and won't leave until my contract is up, I just wish it were somewhere else.

First you get your arse beat by some Asian chicks in your parking garage, now you live among filthy homeless people and espanols. Tough being a baller.

Welcome back by the way.

What kind of jobs do people have that allows them to buy $30 million mansions on the coast of San Diego?

I'm in the wrong business.

Complaining about people speaking Spanish in California? There is a distinct possibility they was speaking Spanish before English there. WOW, how come that place is full of cities and towns with Spanish sounding names?

SO what idiot? There's a good chance they "was" speaking whatever the Cro Magnons spoke before English wasspoken there, too.

What the frick difference does that make?

When did white people become such pussies?

I've lived in San Diego for about 3 months now. I never wanted to move here, but I got laid off in August and was out of work for a few months and took the job offer I got here as it was by far the best opportunity I had gotten offered to me

By the way, I hope you factored in the additional taxes, rent, gas, and living expenses when you took this job. The pay bump may not have been worth it.
