Most of our software coding is done offshore anyway

Also H1B is heavily abused should have just increased minimum salary

I bet you're one of those geniuses with an MBA who thought "You know, all they do is spend money in IT. Let's outsource it!" Then it gets outsourced to a company that uses H1-B visas to import people into the country willing to work for half the wage of an American. Then in three years your company is facing outages, security breaches, and is on the front page for being the next company to have had millions of customer data compromised. Why? Because that outsourcing company is able to get anyone off the street to say they have the manpower, lie about skillsets, and now your IT department is being handled by subpar talent.

Because that's what H1-B visas are mostly being used for.

No question when India, Russia, China and the rest of the world is breathing down your neck, you decide to reduce your technology output? This is a reminder that the most successful companies that this nation rests their back on cake through this (Google, Amazon, Apple) you name it in technology, but guess it’s great to even restrict those.

Dumb part is the H1-B affects the technology position the most where there is a current huge shortage in workers.

Do you think the folks on this board understand any of what you said? Most of the folks here have no idea how the tech world works. Their only opinion of it relates how the tech giants are all anti-trump.

Why shouldn't tech give these jobs to unemployed black people?

They would only have to reach out to Oakland.

Amazon and other Silicon Valley firms outright lie when they claim Americans cant do these jobs

The reason they want Indians and Arabs and East Asians is because those people will accept a lower pay rate

Too many American techs have had to train the cheaper foreign labor that is replacing them.

And I think the L-1 is even dumber. It can prevent people who have jobs here already from being able to return after one year. And forcing companies to have to hire someone new, for a job someone else is already doing isnt great. Especially because, yes, there are some jobs here that foreigners are more suited for performing. Particularly when it requires being a native speaker of a specific language and you are working with expats. Curious how this influences foreign companies from wanting to locate offices in the US

It's the same reason that they hire new college grads in programming and IT to replace employees who have been there for several years. $$$ vs. $.

Since no one has pointed it out yet, an H1-B visa is a non-immigrant visa. So "muh immigrant founders" is not a valid point.

Have you ever worked for a company that had you train your replacement prior to laying you off?
Disney did that.

Dumbass 200k are given out each year, what’s that going to do for 26 million unemployed. Are you too stupid to understand that this doesn’t do anything?

Which one is it? We've crippled the tech output of the country or it's only 200k and doesn't do anything?

a current huge shortage in workers.

Similar to gas shortages in the 1970's. Shortage doesn't mean a lack of supply but a lack of people willing to work for the wages an Indian immigrant is.

Ronald Reagan removed Carter's gas price caps and prices dropped and long lines disappeared. Tech companies having to hire Americans just means they pay a fair wage for superior work. They got rich doing just that, so I think they'll be fine.

This. Most children of immigrants refer to themselves as "first generation Americans" because they're proud of this fact.

Dumbass those Americans aren’t competing with people that get H!-B visas, do you realize how competitive it is to get one? There’s only 200k given out each year and tech gets majority of them

First- or second-generation immigrants played a founding role in 44 of 2018’s top 100 Fortune 500 companies, including Apple, AT&T, and Ford, according to data analysis published in the February 2019 issue of National Geographic. Other domestic blue chip firms founded by immigrants or their children? Alphabet. Amazon. Costco.
Apple: co-founder Steve Jobs’ biological father immigrated from Syria in the early 1950s, and never knew his son

AT&T: founded by Alexander Graham Bell, who immigrated from Scotland to Canada in 1870 and didn’t become a US citizen until 1882, five years after founding the company

Ford: founded by the son of an Irishman who immigrated to the US prior to the Civil War

Alphabet: co-founded by a Jewish immigrant from the USSR whose parents brought him to the US at age 6 through a special religious exemption to then-current immigration policy

Amazon: founded by Jeff Bezos, whose only connection to an immigrant is his Cuban-born stepfather, who escaped the Castro regime in 1962

Costco: founded by son of immigants who came to US 110+ years ago

So, of the six US corporations mentioned by name in the quote you provided, only one of the founders or co-founders immigrated since the passage of Hart-Celler in 1965, and he would have been denied entry into thr US if he hadn’t been a Soviet Jew.

What was the point you were trying to make?
