The Great American Success Story

True rags-to-riches story. An example of what anyone with a little bit of work ethic, who uses the gifts God gave him, can accomplish in this great country. This 250th, I submit that there is nothing more American than The King himself.

Yep. Tank gunner in Germany.

The only thing he was gunning down in Germany was his teen bride who was one of his commanding officers daughter.

And, of course, someone ignorant has to respond.

I think Elvis is a bad example. Sure he was a rags to riches story, but most of us are not an 11 on a 1-10 scale of looks, height and talent, so we can’t just emulate Elvis.

Well, he got a great tip from that kid, Forest Gump.

Good thread... I thought this was going to be a certain African American who is always in the news today -- but Elvis really was a good guy.
I didn't appreciate him until after his passing. What an outstanding voice... and I still love his wholesome, campy movies.
But he was an even better man, I am told. I had a distant family member who dated Elvis. I won't name her, because some of you may recognize the name. However, my father always told me how much of a gentleman he was, to her and everyone he met.
It was those stories which made me admire him most, and also taught me a life lesson.

I'm just an entertainer... I don't think I should influence other people, my fans, with religion or politics."
I miss the days when it seemed most of our celebrities or sports stars tried to take this same approach Elvis took.
Certainly not all of course. But it seemed most did.

There will never be another Elvis Presley. He’s the greatest ever. Of all time.
He had sex with every single female co star he had except one. It’s also estimated he purchased 225 Cadillacs and 125 Lincoln Continentals in his lifetime.

Who was the lone holdout actress?

A lot of theories.
My guess is either Mary Tyler Moore or Barbara Eden. Both happily married at the time they starred with Elvis.
