The first non-elected President in US history. What will his legacy be?

How does you think Gerald Ford will be regarded by future historians? Or has his legacy already been cemented? Thoughts?

He’ll probably wind up lower middle of the pack. He was fairly inconsequential but being a Republican will knock him down a few pegs in addition to not being elected

Nothing but a historical blip on the radar that pardoned Nixon
Solid troll attempt though

I does think most Americans under age 30 never heard of him.

Serious talk, do schools even cover him and Nixon in the curriculum these days? I graduated high school in '08 and it seems like we never got past the Vietnam war in History, just started over every year. We definitely never got to the cold war. But I don't feel like we were taught about Watergate at all.

Well first, Vietnam was a conflict within the greater scheme of the cold war, so you did cover it in some aspect. As for Watergate, one of the people who reported on it is still alive and bloviating on CNN. So I guess they figure it wasn't as long ago as it actually was. It's probably not on any standardized tests either for the same reason, which is probably why it's not a curriculum priority. Your government at work.

He's got a bad arse class of naval ships named after him that will at least make him well known in military historian circles for centuries.

That might be fair, but that context never was explained as far as I remember. There were so many proxy wars between us and the East, but I only ever learned that after. As someone born around the time the Wall came down, I was always left wanting for an explanation on what that really meant.

Elected as Vice President, meaning still elected. Same for any other VP who's had to replace a President that died (Johnson). Ford is the exception because he was never on the ticket and was replaced in the middle of a term.

John Tyler was not elected president, so he is the first non-elected president in US history.

A non-elected President is a President who was never elected by the Electoral College. Vice Presidents are elected by the electoral college (this goes back to the very beginning of the country). I didn't say anything about not being elected as President, just non-elected.
This...isn't like a controversial fact, dude.
