Looks like even the Bible beating right is trying to derail the train. This just came across my Facebook feed and I thought this board would be interested.

How to Live Under an Unqualified President

quote:

Tomorrow we will inaugurate a man to the presidency of the United States who is morally unqualified to be there. This is important to say just now because not to see it and feel it will add to the collapsing vision of leadership that enabled him to be nominated and elected.

Not only that, but if we do not see and feel the nature and weight of this sorrow, we will not know how to pray for his presidency or speak as sojourners and exiles whose pattern of life is defined in heaven, not by the mood of the culture.

This is interesting to see come from a pastor. Admittedly I know nothing about him but this isn't exactly the reception I expected.

He rips Trumps character and past and closes with this

quote:

Let us not exhaust ourselves bemoaning a Trump presidency. There are peoples whose privileges of prosperity and possibility are vastly inferior to ours. Having been so loved by God to receive the gospel, we are debtors to them (Romans 1:14). Do not think of the molehill of moral and social disadvantages of a Trump presidency. Think of the Himalayan mountain range of blessings we have in Christ. Let this put fire in our bones for what matters most: the salvation of the world.

Im no theologian but it seems like this is the Bible thumper version of a SJW melt?

The two aren't mutually exclusive, unfortunately. In fact, that combination is probably the most intolerable.

Sola scriptura can give pastors a big head.

John Piper is a heavyweight in the evangelical world, that's not some random fricknut.

That being said, these are people who actually believe Noah built a solid wooden boat that stayed afloat for 6 weeks with two of every animal on board while God flooded the Earth and then kangaroos swam to Australia. Who gives a frick what they think about anything?

That's John Piper very respected theologian. But he needs to stick to what he knows and that is not how to run a government.

I give zero shits about his "moral qualifications". Steve Jobs was a dick but he got things done.

Most evangelicals come from a Baptist/Non-denom background. They're pretty far from traditional high Protestants.

Luther and Calvin would see the evangelical movement as far more heretical than the church they split from. It doesn't resemble reformation theology at all.

I greatly greatly respect Piper in all regards...

But...

Which comes off to me as "I wrote this article and it doesn't mean anything."

I think they'd be pretty disgusted at the state of affairs within their own churches, too.

quote:

They're all heretics

I like to be nice and just say heterodox.

You do know Piper follows Calvinist teaching heavily? He's the leader of that type of theology in today's church.
