Last I heard, China is responsible for about 1/9 of all Basketball Related Income for the league. Which is especially important for them since they are likely to be bleeding US income this year.
If they lose that money, the CBA will get invalidated via owner vote and everyone involved will lose a ton of money.

They have also had incidents of fans using slurs at players during matches. Never heard of an incident here like that so you could argue they actually have some base
