The Biden campaign HAS to distance themselves from Hunter right?

I mean strictly speaking from a campaign strategy standpoint, this is spiraling. Can they continue to keep the hermit hidden in the basement and hope the media keeps running cover for them by calling it Russian disinformation and having social media restrict it?
At this point you'd think they punt on Hunter and try to paint him as a troubled individual who acted recklessly of his own accord and is an adult responsible for his own decisions.

I continue to be shocked that he doesn't just come out and lie. He won't be questioned on whatever he says. Go on CNN, let them ask dismissively about these "wild right wing conspiracy theories" and then swallow a load of lies like they've been doing for him for years.
Are they really of the mind that ignoring it is the best course of action, or are they actually aware of everything that COULD come out and are scared any general lie will eventually be discredited?
I'm fascinated by how they've handled this so far.
