Did he accuse those relatives of complicity in faking the deaths of their loved ones?

As a point of fact, it was even more absurd than that. Jones didn’t simply say the families of Sandy Hook faked the deaths of their loved ones, he claimed they were actors and the whole thing was staged. In other words, not even real people.

Trump has sued media and social media agencies in the past and still has ongoing suits against some. How much do you want the bet, he won’t win any of these cases?

I'm just curious if PoV on this issue splits among parents and non parents. If you are not a parent can imagine being in the Sandy Hook parents shoes? How would you react to Jones and his followers actions? Just laugh it off? Would you want to take any action...legal or otherwise as a response for someone talking unbelievable shite about your family in one of the worst times imaginable and then having his fans harras your family with death threats.

Frankly I think Jones got off easy. I would not have blamed one of those parents for going Evel Knievel and breaking every joint in Alex Jones body with a baseball bat.

People don't get $45M for hurt feelings. They may not get $500k for wrongful death. Also, were they watching his videos? It's not like he was standing at the end of their driveway harassing them every day. Everything they heard likely had at least one intermediary. I don't think they enjoyed it, but I don't think it would have been such a large penalty if AJ had been a liberal attacking conservatives. All of these stories are designed to have a chilling effect on counter-narrative speech. Even if you don't like AJ (I never really watched him, maybe 10 minutes total over however many years), this should be disturbing. Eventually the authoritarians will have us in a vice-grip and their enablers (traditionally the "scholars") will be the first ones to reach room temperature.

This begs the question: what is the reputational damage for the claim you don’t even exist? Put aside the heinous way in which these children died and think about what Jones was actually claiming.

Any claim for damages is akin to the families of those in the Apollo program claiming that moonshot denialism has caused them great emotional trauma. It is patently absurd.

Didn't they file the suit 5+ years after he apologized? Were they harmed right away or years after the apology? He never named anyone specifically.. hard to recall defamation suit against someone without them actually being named.

Let's all use common sense here, this is a targeted take out. The prosecutor actually used those words to the jury.

This was a show trial, there were multiple cameras and a director in the Court room. They got what they wanted and Alex will not pay anything (insurance will).

I used to listen to Alex Jones way back when he was a regular on Art Bell. He has said ridiculous and vile lies about many public people for years and this is the first time to my knowledge anyone fought back. This wasnt some slip up by Buck Sexton or a moment of passionate out rage by a conservative voice.

I've asked you and others that come to his defense what you would do if you were the parents and it seems none of you all want to respond. Is it because you would probably take the exact same action as they did but just dont want to admit it? I cant imagine anyone who call himself a man would sit on his hands while his family is being harassed and threatened by Jones' followers and the man himself saying you perpetuated a hoax against our country.
