I don’t think you really know what a default judgment is. It is not an automatic victory for the plaintiff. They still have to prove the claim by law and facts. Stick to things you know about.

He said for years and still does that 9-11 was a hoax. Will he owe the relatives of those who died millions as well?
Some people here would be just fine with zeroing out the bank accounts of everyone who makes waves.

To win a defamation case, you have to prove the person doing the defaming was wrong. It was pretty easy to prove Jones was wrong in his accusation that the Sandy Hook parents were really just CIA actors.

Except they didn’t have to prove anything in this case. What happened was they filed a suit against Jones. To do that, you just have to have alleged facts that IF true could lead to a form of recovery the court can provide. Because Alex Jones’s attorneys never responded to the petition, the judge granted a default judgment against him. This means the plaintiffs never had to prove their case because Alex Jones didn’t bother to mount any defense until after the default judgment had already been rendered.

As such, the trial was only determining value of the damages because Alex Jones forfeited his right to contest the allegations, much like a defendant who already pled guilty in criminal court.

I didn’t say that. CNN is supposed to be real news, yet they lie nightly about issues they know are false. Jones was an entertainer, and much of his stories were hyperbolic in nature.

What does the bill of rights have to do with an entertainer spewing lies?

Revelator,

Bout as entertaining as you calling Alex Jones’ claims about Sandy Hook “hyperbolic”

You have a right to be concerned.

Not concerned with Alex Jones one way or the other.

I am trying to be totally dispassionate about the stupidity of claiming the Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax. It is terrible for those who were directly effected. I feel bad for them., but I don't waste any time venting about it.

I see far bigger things than Alex Jones creating far more real damage to far more people (me and my family included) in terms of both cultural degradation,. financial well being, private happiness, and personal safety.

When people start getting upset about the Mass Media lie, the BLM riots, the SPLC abuses, the financial raping of the middle class, the virtual enslavement of the minority population, and sanctity of the two-parent family I will take more notice and join in the protests.

This country is going to shite on a fast track.

We are allowed to lie, legally speaking. Why do you hate free speech?

This is not true. You still have to prove your case. This could very well be overturned on appeal.

Childish. Desire is only part of the implementation. Who decides what is "true"?

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

If you think this way what about the thousands of articles from the ap that are just incorrect??? I’m sure there are 100s of situations where a story is reported completely wrong and it resulted in someone getting upset and doing harm to another. Free speech is free speech, you can’t ouch and choose. It doesn’t matter if you agree or not, it just depends on if it’s true or false.

This case sets a terrible precedent because one day it will be the other side. Like what do you think about the constant lies about Russian collusion with Trump? Do you really think it didn’t hurt his income??? Tried to run his reputation, those who aren’t tuned in still believe it’s true.

Better be careful about your stance here because it could be easily be flipped against you.

I get Jones isn’t well liked and the government absolutely hates him but you can’t just punish him like this. Not to mention the way they determined how much he’s worth. They took I think his best day of sales and tried to say that he does that everyday so it severely inflated his “net worth”.

If the high ups want you punished you will be punished and while that may never affect us but that doesn’t make it right.

When you got that book on logical fallacies, it was designed to teach you how to avoid them and spot them when used by others - not to teach you how to implement them in your arguments, as you have done repeatedly in this thread.
