It was definitely a bad look. The Democrats will do anything it takes to win, so it would not surprise me if this was the beginning of their strategy to push Biden out by the end of the summer. I can already see his address where he pulls an LBJ and says that he will not accept or will relinquish the nomination and will leave office at the end of his term on January 20, 2025.

Nothing about what the political parties do isn't pre-planned. Those at the highest level of the Democrat party known Biden is a complete buffoon. Hell, they knew even a lucid, younger Biden, was a buffoon. That's why they strategically kept in his living room throughout the 2020 campaign. History has shown that you can't put him out in public to speak off the cuff because there is a 90% chance he will say something completely stupid, factually incorrect, or, more likely, both!
So last night's press conference was done for a reason. And it wasn't to allow a doddering old buffoon to prove his mental acuity. Those who sent him out knew it would be a mess. How can you say that? Because they allowed the media to tear into him. A media that gets it's marching orders from the Democratic party. If it was truly to show Biden is capable it would have been MUCH more scripted. Not only did they allow him to speak off the cuff (and forget where his son's rosary came from...after angrily chastising a report saying he was too impaired to remember the date of his son's death), but they allowed him to walk back to the podium to discuss a completely different issue. One where he confused Israel with Mexico.
In an election year you don't send your candidate out there to crash and burn...unless you want him to crash and burn.
