Two things:
1. I hope he is right
2. I hope that he manages $25 million is a typo

Thompson manages $25 million (lulz) and his Tesla TSLA-8.22% short is the fund’s biggest position. To be fair, he’s been betting big against Tesla for years, which, of course, means he’s endured some brutal stretches.
Setting aside the merits of Tesla’s ability to continue operating...this is a terrible example to build an article on.

What’s really surprising throughout all of this how much people are rooting for the company to fail. And the same ones rooting for it to fail are the ones rooting for a gov subsidy of the steel and coal industries so I don’t buy whatever nonsense is spun about leeching off of taxpayers.

Come gather round people wherever you roam
And admit that the waters around you have grown
And accept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth saving
Then you better start swimming or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changing

Thompson manages $25 million?
I've never heard of a "hedge fund" that small.
Perhaps someone else here has?
FYI there are several TD posters who are worth that, or nearly that . . . on their own.
Tesla net worth exceeds this stooge by more than 23 HUNDRED-fold
So let's keep it real.

Its the same people who cheer when people like stephen hawking or christopher hitchens die. There's a large group of people who just don't see the importance of pioneers in the advancement of technology, or simply have an issue with people who are naturally very smart. When that tesla was launched into space or when the rockets returned safely there were plenty to cheer about how cool it was, but make no mistake, there were plenty sitting on the sidelines hoping for it to fail so they could come here to bitch about the taxes or how dumb the idea was in the first place as a 'gotcha' to science. There were probably a few of their ancestors hoping the moon landing would fail as well.

He likes to refer to it as "boutique"

Good. Tesla does nothing but rape the environment for their filthy batteries using slave labor in the Congo. Then turn around and charge $100k for a car that can only go 250 miles

Regardless of his managed funds amount, whatever it is, he's voicing the concerns of many people.
Tesla is mature enough to where it should be profitable and its woefully short on that promise. Government subsidies are coming to an end and China is in his rearview mirror. There is very good reason for concerns by investors not wearing Musk blinders.

I agree. The part I’m struggling with is how the people who: Cheers Tesla's supposed demise because American jobs shouldn’t be subsidized with taxpayer funds...
are the same people who: Cheer tariffs to subsidize the steel industry because it will save American jobs.
It doesn’t come down to a cohesive perspective on any of it, some sort of guiding principle on the matter. I don’t get it

Musk skipped beta testing and soft tooling for the Model 3 in order to make it so cheap and it backfired pretty badly. Pretty sad when you are getting that kind of cash from the government and have to skip industry norms to attempt at pulling a profit

quote:That's a very narrow view for an investor. You really should try to understand the principles of investing before you clamor on behalf of the company that is based on promises, debt and missed deadlines, not to mention market forces at work against it.

I’m not talking about investing, I’m talking about Poliboard posters. Spare me that they are actually arguing about enlightened investing principles.

I was grateful for those managing 25 million in the early days.
