I have to say...you are tenacious. What I will state unequivocally is that you are wrong on this. The Chinese are robbing Africa (okay...investing in Africa - with one sided trade deals enriching themselves with natural resources and the corrupt government's that don't give a shite about their citizens). Those resources, along with increased control (or renovated variations...the Silk Road) of trade routes, will be used against US businesses. The Chinese play the long game. Trump is forcing their hand. You are like the very happy hog at the trough. The Chinese are your WONDERFUL farm owner...keeping you fat until the slaughter. Between currency manipulation, intellectual property theft, the influence of the political spectrum for favorable trade deals, and an ever-growing cyber/military presence...it is unwise to assume any gains made with our relationship with China were without considerable forethought on their part. Make no mistake, ALL of it was planned. I have a tremendous amount of respect for their long term planning. It's truly amazing what they have accomplished. In short, fight them now or surrender later. You and I simply have different views when it comes to the Chinese.

There are the various retirement plans including 401ks, Simple IRAs, true pension plans, ect that have at least some relationship to wage amounts in some way.

I stand corrected and I welcome your description of such things and apologize profusely.

I don't see it as win or lose.

In fact the more we trade the less likely we are to war.

I see it as looking after our business and our there is nothing wrong at all with importing goods that can be made cheaper in China for what ever reason it is than can be made here.

It is just wrong thinking to think of cheap imports as bad for our economy. It simply isn't true and there are no numbers that say it is bad. None.

But down compared to 25-30 yrs ago. The DB pensions(defined by yrs of service and final salary, company thrifts/matches) are going extinct or frozen until extinct and DCs(roth iras, 401ks, std ira/rollovers) are not equivalent in most cases. In fact retirement age is going up because of the extinction of DBs.

Well Trump losing is not my goal. I like his tax cuts. I like his SCOTUS appointments.

I like he seems to be refraining somewhat from the never ending war we have endured since 2001.

The tariffs threaten the economy but will not end send us into depression I do not think. They will slow growth not expand it.

So he wants to minimize impact on consumers while showing China he is serious. Hopefully China will come to the table before the 25% hits.

quote:

Chinese have said they will not talk if he imposes the tariffs. So much for this being a negotiating tactic.

Of course they did they’re trying to force us to not do it. This is the start of real negotiating. But we are in a position of strength, it will force them to eventually change their tune because it will hurt them more than us.

is discouraging. It look like the talks were about to start again and we could make some real progress and then this.

bullshite. They’d just do what they always do just like North Korea does. They’d show interest and “talk” with no real results until a new administration comes in. They simply wait out electoral turnover. Rinse, repeat. You want real results then you have to hit them, and hit them hard and fast because the next president or new congress may not be interested in redoing a trade deal.

He’s cool with half a trillion dollars in American wealth yearly going to build China’s military so Americans can be blackmailed or eventually be slaughtered on the battlefield so he can grow his stock portfolio. He’s a McCain/Rubio establishment RINO. It’s all about money, his personal money and frick the country. That’s the truth. He admitted he has personal business interest in China. He makes his living trading with China. He will give them anything so he can make a buck.

Wouldn't that be a great strategy for them? Let Trump tax US citizens for a few years and then try to influence election for a more pro-Chinese candidate.

Freeman is the right about this being IP related though.

Trump Spares Some Apple Products From New Tariffs

you got enough stroke and $$$ and the rules do not apply to you

quote:

Apple Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook -- who dined with Trump and his wife, Melania, at Trump’s Bedminster, New Jersey golf resort in August -- has said he hopes “calm heads prevail” in the trade conflict between the U.S. and China. The company’s sprawling production chain is centered in China. Earlier this year, a Chinese Communist Party newspaper named Apple among the American companies that would be “most damaged” if a trade war erupted.

‘Smart Guy’

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow, speaking at the Economic Club of New York on Monday, said the administration frequently consults with Cook and takes his views seriously.

“We’ve spoken to Mr. Tim Cook many times. He’s a really smart guy. He’s given us some good advice,” Kudlow said.

American industry has come out strongly against Trump’s tariffs, saying cost increases could raise prices for consumers.

Explain them to me. Just how do cheap imports hurt the economy? I am sure forcing people to use more of their income to live because of ending cheap imports is somehow good for the economy or you smart Trumpkins would not be for it!!
