Also apparently last week our genius Secretary of State was negotiating with the wrong fricking guy who hasn’t been the President of Afghanistan since 2014: Twitter

To be fair, negotiating with Karzai made sense, particularly if you believed Ghani was going to flee the country as soon as shite got tough. Karzai had already expressed intrest in working to create a power-sharing government.

The problem with this, for the Administration, is that to admit that was the reason you were negotiating with Karzai, you have to admit that you knew the fall of Kabul was eminent and that the current Afghan President was going to tuck tail and run. That goes against your Administration's statements regarding this shitshow.

Trying to knock out that resistance while the US is handcuffed.

Even if the US wanted to beat back the Taliban they cannot do it until the US is off the airport.

Remember, though, that quite a few ANA pilots hightailed it to Tajikistan with their planes. They're reportedly getting support there, and presumably could run bombing missions in support of the resistance. That is another big reason the Taliban does not want to see them retake Bagram.

Here's to hoping her and her child go on to do great things in this country! At least they have the opportunity.

This has the potential to be hell of a story in 20 years. Let’s bookmark this thread and come back to it in 2041 and we can find the kid, who may be in his 2nd year at some renown university, all set to be the next great Botanist or something.

I’ll set a reminder on Outlook.

Still, the publicly-stated plan is "Get to the airport."

No, people were asking to leave the airport today/yesterday because conditions there are so bad.

Yesterday, without the Sec Def and the Pentagon even knowing, the Embassy and State Dept. closed the airport due to the ISIS threat and told Americans not to come. Even as the airport was closed our defense officials were telling people to "Get to the airport".

Well, I guess this could be a sign that the Taliban are embracing Capitalist ideals....

New info on the ground in Kabul: Taliban militants are now starting to charge people for "escorts," for safe passage to the airport. The price is said to range from $1,000 to $3,000, per person.

Wonder if they take PayPal and Venmo?

Now is a great day to rewatch Charlie Wilson’s war.

Interestingly, the Chinese are very concerned about the situation and already privately talking about working with others, including US to stabilize the situation. They are concerned about Taliban working with ethnic Muslims in China to fund and start terrorist activity, destabilizing Pakistan, where they have spend billions to develop trade routes etc. And of course they will do exactly that.

Here is my question for you Afghan experts, and in advance know I am a cold pragmatic mfer, but is it really in our interest to have a stable Afghanistan?

Right now, if they can clean up his exit, I am saying again let them rot. Let’s support the Northern alliance to keep them at war, and have bases for our drones. We can use our stealth weaponry, to take out targets. (The real stuff not just drones) We will also have great locations to secretly test new weapons, and systems, keeping military industrial complex happy.

We can then encourage and try to ferment Iranian and Pakistani involvement, maybe if we are lucky get them in active war with each other. Hopefully, Taliban will support terrorist attacks in Russia as well. We can literally have all our enemies at hot or Cold War with each other.
Yes their is the issue of Terrorist coming back but I would submit it’s better to have them all in one place.

As the operative says at end of Charlie Wilson’s war, let it play out
