No, it’s because the average Chinese person is jealous (rightly) on how their cousins off the coast lived in free from tyranny. The CCP hates them because they don’t own them.

You lead the way.

BTW for years I have advocated allowing the Japanese to re-arm and the US leaving the region. Let those countries in the region settle their own issues.

The U.N. Charter recognizes the right of self determination of peoples.

The U.S. is a U.N. member.

If the U.N. does not live up to it's charter, then it's a bullshite organization and should be disbanded.

Replace “Taiwan” with “Japan”. You can answer your own question.

You can't just do that. That is like pretending that "Ukraine" is "France". Do we now have to go to war in Donbas because we are treaty bound to defend France?

What if they moved on Japan? We, and the international community, just sit back and let it happen? South Korea?

Then we would uphold our treaty obligations to defend Japan and South Korea.... we have no such treaty obligation with Taiwan.

You saying we cannot apply any pressure on China at all? We just let them roll through Asia and do what they want? For more cheap shite?

That isn't what I'm saying--can't speak for IB. But generally, we are not the world police force. We are only obligated to defend or protect the countries we have treaty obligations with. Nothing else is our business.

It is best for us to ignore that situation.

Beautiful.
As the Aussies say, "there are two islands China has its eyes on. One has a population of 23 million, the other 26 million. If the US ignores one, it will ignore both." The reference is to Taiwan and Australia.

The UN went one step further and expelled Taiwan in the 70's.

You’re right, the Brits did frick up. They should have handed the territory over to Taiwan.

So let them move on Japan and South Korea too.

You study one iota of history? The lead ups to both world wars? Remember us just letting Europe settle their differences and where that got us? Turning the blind eye to Germany and whistling past the graveyard while they committed their atrocities?

We let them just walk in to Taiwan and imprison and execute members of that government? Innocent members of the public?

That’s your thinking…. More of what has really fricked the world up in the past.

Taiwan, like Britain, had no chance of holding the territory.

Hong Kong has never even for a minute been our problem. Britain gave everyone born in the territory pre-1997 handover and their descendants a path to BNO status/residency in the UK. That is all there is to do.

Hong Kong belongs to China and there is nothing anyone in the Western Hemisphere can do about it.

Lots of big talk in this thread but no plans of action.

We didn't even send troops to get involved their civil war but you boys want to fight the Chinese if they fight the Taiwanese.

Are there some more wars you guys want us to get into???

Only 14 nations in the UN recognize Taiwan. Only 17 in the world.

Look I hope Taiwan stays they way they but I don't want to send Americans to fight a war over it like you guys want to do.

(Oh---do you guys want tariffs on Taiwan chips to "protect" American chip makers???)

Silliness. Outside of the similar populations and the vague correlation of being on an island, Taiwan and Australia are not similarly situated vis a vis China

We can at least take away their 'most favored nation' status.
