I know this statement might trigger certain weak-minded people who worship those who look like Winnie The Pooh, but it's the truth.

Hell yeah its a country!!! China can suck it if they feel otherwise. We should start a social media campaign that Taiwan is an independent country and blast that everywhere just to piss off the chi'coms.

It considers itself so, but technically it is only another country if other recognize it with an exchange of diplomatic credentials and in five years time exchange ambassadors.

Taiwan is the more successful little brother of China. That’s why bringing up Taiwan makes China mad.

It's a bit more complicated than that. It's the one small part of China that the Communists didn't win in their civil war, thus they (Taiwan) claim to be the rulers of mainland China.
In reality both sides have until now chosen just to act like the other is not there.

And btw, the majority of Taiwanese people don’t consider themselves a separate country, but instead the legitimate government of China.

Let’s hear why you think that’s a relevant comparison, other than these two places being geographically located in/near China.
I don’t want a war over Taiwan either, but the HK example is stupid. We didn’t effectively steal Taiwan from China and colonize it for 150 years. Plus, there is nothing the British could have done to retain HK. China was going to take it back either way. The US demonstrably is capable of defending Taiwan if it chooses to.

I agree. We should just ignore the situation and appease China.
I mean appeasing dictators has a long history of working out.
The 1930s is flush with examples of appeasement and I can't seem to remember how that worked out.
