Well, if we're talking about a land assault, Russia can't get to Switzerland...or Austria...without going through at least one NATO country. So yeah, in that regard, NATO will protect them to some extent, even though they aren't NATO. By taking on the Russians as they come through Czech Rep, Slovakia, and Hungary, NATO will in a sense be protecting Switzerland. NATO forms a protective barrier around those two.

Switzerland’s best defense is its worthlessness. Invading Switzerland would cost a lot of lives, materiel, and money just to get good skiing, chocolate, and analog watches.
