I've noticed that people who refuse to work for 8 bucks an hour aren't too proud to take tax money from those making 8 bucks an hour.

Most were taken in battle, not "kidnapped from their homes".
Also, that statement has been the common refrain of those who like to portray slavery as a uniquely American thing and perpetrated only by caucasians onto blacks.

Ok, if I said “most were taken hostage”, would that really change the point?
They unwillingly were enslaved without their consent. They didn’t choose that terrible existence. They didn’t ask to come to America to be owned by another human and treated like chattel.

Neither did the Chinese out west. A lot of socio-ethnic groups were treated like shite 100 years ago. Only one still uses it as a crutch.

If a demographic has been brutalized for more than 100 years, they should just forgive and forget because other people have. I’ll keep that in mind.

What brutalization has a 30 year old black man faced? There are no more slaves, there's nobody alive who's ever been a slave. How much longer do you want to drag this out?

It's not just a European thing, slavery has existed in some form in every society we know of. The Trans-Saharan Slave Trade (from Africa to Arab lands) dwarfs not only the time length of the Trans-Atlantic trade, but also the sheer number of slaves taken from Africa. Hell, slavery (including the open buying/selling of them) still exists in Africa today.

It does because the narrative continues to be that somehow the descendants of African slaves who were brought to the US (which was only a small fraction of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, much less worldwide and/or historical slavery) are so uniquely victimized by just the existence of this knowledge of their ancestry that it causes them to be unable to succeed in Western society without long-term handouts.
